Chapter One

Echo was sitting in her chair at the armed detective agency, drinking coffee to stay awake. She's been there for 3 months, training under the President and Kunikida. It was a boring day. No missions, no chores, no shenanigans: the kind of day where you want to just doze off and wake up the next day. 

She hated days like this. 

As she sat there, her coffee losing heat and her eyes grew heavy, and just before they shut, a uniform knock was at the door. It didn't take a super deduction (or whatever Ranpo calls it) to know who it is.

 "What do you want, 'Kida?"

 " You have a mission today! "

Echo shot up. Mission? Something productive to do! "Where at?"

 " Dazai was running around and got looped into some kidnapping by that group. "

 "Port Mafia?" She asked.

 "Decay of the Angels."

 Echo sighed dramatically. "Can't you get Atsushi to do it? It's his Mentor."

 " they also kidnapped a Mafia executive, so you'll have a Criminal to work alongside. "

 "Oh? Who's this criminal?" She said as she took a sip of coffee, which she nearly do it out. who likes room temperature coffee?!

 " Oliver. "

She spat the coffee across the desk. "That Short Bastard?! He makes Chuuya look tall!"

 " that's the executive who got kidnapped -"

 "Bullshit!"

 " Look, Echo, just do the damn mission! " Kunikida snapped.

 "Whatever, I'll do it."

 " That's what I thought. "

 Oliver was laying on a couch at the port mafia headquarters, watching some kids bicker. He's been there for years, and trained the newbies. It was a boring day. No missions, no chores, no shenanigans: the kind of day where you want to just doze off and wake up the next day.

"Oliver!" Akutagawa shouted .

 "Yes sir?" Oliver said as he say up.

Akutagawa handed him a ransom note. "Chuuya's been kidnapped, and we need you to go get him."

 " what's the ransom? " Oliver asked as his ears perked up.

 "They want a ton of money. We could afford it, but it be easier to get the shortest mafia member to do it."

 "What's in it for me?"

 Akutagawa showed him a check. "100,000¥."

 Oliver choked. That was enough to get a lot of cool things. "There's got to be a catch."

 "He was kidnapped by the Decay of the Angels and you're working with Echo."

 Oliver scoffed. " Fine, only because I like money and the safety of my friends. "

 "Good." Akutagawa said.
