Chapter 46
Stella POVI looked disappointedly at the undercooked cookies. All I had to do was toss them in the oven, but like the last batch, they'll probably get too hard. I scratched my head as I looked back at the open baking book. Nathalie was in sight, chuckling at my several failed attempts.
"Shut up!"
She erupted into louder laughter, prompting me to toss the tray onto the table, causing a few raw cookies to fall from the line-up configuration. I took one of the hottest ones from the counter. It was firm at the edges and sticky and moist in the center.
I promised Nathalie I could bake cookies, so I couldn't blame her for silently giggling herself silly in the kitchen corner. They were simply made using flour, sugar, and chocolate chips and baked in the oven. It wasn't meant to be that hard.
"What am I doing wrong?" I hold out my hand to prevent her from saying anything. "Do not tell me; I have the answers." I said as I grabbed up my phone and launched Google.
"Wait..." I dragged, searching for the right thing to tell her. "So, basically, this is the correct outcome." I said looking at the soft under baking cookie.
"It is designed to have a firm shell with softness in the middle." I said as I took a mouthful of the delicious and soft dough. I heard her clapping reverberating in the corner.
"I have been trying to tell you that for the past hour."
"Why didn't you tell me!?"
"You got this, remember."
"Yes, and in the end, I did get it."
"Got what?"
I jumped incredibly high when I saw Mateo. I slid into her arms. I promptly hugged her and led her to my masterpieces. "I made cookies. "I'm all by myself." I fluttered my lashes, waiting for her praises.
"You did?" She remarked, her gaze shifting to the defaulted ones. I rapidly whipped her head to the ideal one sitting on the heated tray. "Those ones are merely an experiment."
Nathalie choked on her chuckle as I gazed at her. "It's funny," she laughs louder. I gently brushed her off.
"Taste it. Nathalie, come sample my marvelous creations." I extended my hand theatrically to the ceiling.
Mateo took up one, and I was surprised she wasn't flashing her fingers in the heat. She probably like them heated, just as I do. Not Nathalie. She was holding one cookie and at least six thick ply table towels. She is such a softie.
They bite into it at the same time, setting my body on edge, my eyes glued to their face expecting a reaction.
I grinned as both of their brows rose and their heads nodded in approval.
"Yes!"
"Love it." Mateo murmured as she gently kissed my lips, delicate crumbs adhering to my lips, which I sucked off. I looked to Nathalie, who was having difficulty swallowing the heated dough. She could only lift a thumb up. It was satisfactory for me.
"Are you finished with work?" I asked Mateo.
She nodded, sucking the melted cookie chip that was sticking out from the top of the bitten cookie. "We start with dinner?"
She shakes her head. She then licked the crumbs off her lips. She placed the rest of the cookie down. "I want to show you something in my office."
"What?"
"You have to come so I can show you."
My brows widened; her showing me something didn't set well with me. If I should think about what in the office. There would be nothing except paperwork. "I'm scared."
"Don't worry, its something beautiful. It was something I should have let us do. But I believe this is the ideal time."
"What is that?"
"You have to come see for yourself." She shrugged as she turned and walked out the kitchen. I'm curious as to why she couldn't spread it out on the kitchen countertop.
"Stop thinking, and come." She said. I turned over to see Nathalie smiling; she was often smiling, but this time she appeared to be aware of what was going on in the office.
"You know what in the office."
"She does, but she won't tell you.
"Just come."
"Go," she giggled as she shoved me out of the kitchen.
