The conversation I had with Cedric still lingered in my mind, leaving me shocked and bewildered. I decided to make my way slowly to my bedroom, trying to process my thoughts. I couldn't help but wonder if this was what had been weighing on his mind during breakfast.
Why did I decide to call him "Master Cedric" Was it out of spite? I cringed at the thought, feeling a pang of guilt. He still loves me? The revelation stirred up emotions I thought I had long buried. Not that I was surprised, but my feelings were beginning to resurface, like ripples on a once-still pond. Why did I say no? What is wrong with me? I thought, berating myself for my indecisiveness. The man saved me, and yet I'm stuck looking at the past. I ran my hand through my hair, lost in my own thoughts, trying to untangle the web of emotions that had ensnared me. Just how much do I still feel for him? I couldn't let him know. The vulnerability was too much to bear.
I walked slowly and stopped at a door that was slightly ajar. I peeked inside and was surprised to find what appeared to be a self-contained apartment. The room was spacious, with a sitting area, a fireplace at the far end, and two doors on either side. The space was immaculately clean and arranged, giving the impression that someone had been living there recently. This couldn't be Angus's room, I thought; his room had to be upstairs. My curiosity piqued, I decided to investigate the room to the right first.
As I pushed open the door, I was met with a beautiful, moderately sized bedroom that seemed to belong to a lady. The room was elegantly furnished, with a few ladies' gowns hanging in the wardrobe behind the door. I wondered if the other door might lead to another room and decided to investigate. But before I could, I heard a voice behind me."You seem to be enjoying yourself, Luna," Angus said, his sudden presence startling me. "Angus!" I exclaimed, turning to face him. "How long have you been here?" I asked, trying to composed myself. "Long enough," he responded, his cryptic answer leaving me wondering what he meant.
Angus's eyes narrowed slightly as he asked, "Are you lost?" I hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. "No, no, I'm just being inquisitive, that's all," I replied, trying to downplay my curiosity. Angus nodded thoughtfully. "Oh, Rosa lives here," he explained. "After losing her husband and son to werewolves, she moved in. Though she's been gone for over five to six months now, I still keep the place tidy." My eyes widened as I processed this new information. Rosa, a woman, I thought, my mind racing with questions.
"yes, and we shouldn't be expecting her anytime soon," Angus continued. "She has one daughter who is almost due and will be giving birth soon. I'm sure she'll be there for a while." I nodded, trying to process the information."Her family was murdered?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
Angus's expression turned somber. "Yeah," he said, his eyes clouding over with sadness. Maybe Angus grew attached to this Rosa, "Her daughter was already married, or probably she would've been dead too. She's been hiding out here with us for about two years now." He paused, collecting his thoughts. "I told you earlier, they come and they go. She might also not be coming back."I felt a shiver run down my spine as I asked, "Were the killers found? I mean the werewolves?", I asked slowly, Angus nodded, but I still didn't feel any relief. The thought of such violence and tragedy lingered, leaving me with a sense of unease.
Those were the very same creatures after me, and I couldn't even figure out why. "Hey, don't panic," Angus said, touching my arm. I hadn't realized I was hugging myself tightly, as if comforting the baby in my womb. I nodded, trying to appear calm, but my voice betrayed me. "I'm fine," I said, still evidently panicking.
Angus's expression turned serious. "You're safe here, but at least you realize why we can't tell you everything," he said, his words cryptic. I turned to look at him sharply, seeking answers.
"Relax, relax," he said, his tone soothing. "Not immediately, at least. Firstly, one thing you should know is that this castle is fortified." He dragged me out of Rosa's apartment, his pace quickening as he led me through the winding corridors.
"Secondly, no one would dare come here when the Harbinger is around," Angus said, his voice filled with conviction."They fear him that much?" I asked, my eyes widening in surprise.
Angus nodded, about to elaborate, but I cut him off, my anxiety spiking. "But he isn't here now, they could come anytime now."
Angus's grip on my shoulders tightened, his hands steadying me. "Luna, Luna," he said, his voice calm and soothing. He looked me straight in the eyes, his gaze piercing. "Trust me, you're safe. Let's go to your chambers".
