Chapter 9

As it was morning, Vrinda was getting ready for school. Because of her cousin's wedding, she was going to school after many days.

"Vrinda, yeh lo, tiffin pack kar diya hai," Sharvari said while handing the tiffin to Vrinda."Haan, mummy," Vrinda replied.

As she reached school and entered her class, she saw Shriyan and Vaidehi arguing."Arre, kya hua? Tum dono lad kyun rahe ho?" Vrinda asked, coming between them."Isse dekho na, ma'am ne hum dono ko yeh poster banane ke liye kaha tha. Toh isne already bana liya. Mujhe bhi toh help karni thi, duffer," Vaidehi complained to Vrinda."Shriyan, tumne aisa kyun kiya? Woh bhi help karti na tumhe," Vrinda interrogated."Arre, par thik hai na. Koi baat nahi. Main waise bhi free tha, toh kar diya," Shriyan said."Aur upar se isne ma'am ko bata diya ki chart maine banaya hai," Vaidehi added."Arre, tum banao ya main banao, baat toh ek hi hai na," Shriyan said."Nahi, ek baat kaise? Saare efforts tumne liye aur credit mujhe de diya," Vaidehi said, a little disappointed."Arre, kuch efforts nahi liye maine. Sirf ek chart hi toh banaya hai. Aur ma'am ne hum dono ko kaha tha chart banane ko, isliye maine tumhara bhi naam bol diya... itna kuch bhi nahi hua hai," Shriyan said."Itna kuch nahi hua hai? Ye tum bol rahe ho?" Vaidehi said."Bass... ab bass bhi karo tum dono. Itni si baat ko itna bada bana rahe ho," Vrinda said, focusing Vaidehi and Shriyan's attention on each other."Sorry... phir aisa nahi karunga," Shriyan said, looking at Vaidehi, who was still disappointed."Main bas itna kehna chahti thi ki tum akele sab efforts kyun loge aur le bhi liye toh naam mera kyun bataya," Vaidehi said politely."Ji," Shriyan said, making eye contact."Chalo ab apni seat pe jaake baithte hain," Vrinda said to Vaidehi."Haan chalo... dimag kharab ho gaya subah subah," Vaidehi said as they approached their respective seats."Mil toh lo mujhse, itne dino baad aayi hu. Aake pehla kaam tumhari ladayi suljhayi hai. Kaisi best friend ho," Vrinda said mischievously, making Vaidehi laugh."Kaisa raha function?" Vaidehi interrogated."Bahot badhiya," Vrinda answered with a spark in her eyes."Vaise Anish ko kya hua pata hai tumhe? Tum jis din se absent ho, woh bhi naya aaya," Vaidehi interrogated."Haan... woh... mujhe function mein mile the," Vrinda said, getting a little shy, a smile growing on her lips."Hey prabhu, ye tum kya keh rahi ho? Sacchi?" Vaidehi said, shocked."Haan," Vrinda said."Haan, kab, kaise, kaha yeh kon batayega? Explain toh karo meri maa," Vaidehi said to Vrinda."Haan... woh actually..." Vrinda was about to speak until the teacher arrived."Bolo na, waise bhi itna important lecture nahi hai, tum bolo kuch nahi hoga," Vaidehi whispered to Vrinda."Nahi, lec hone do, phir batati hu," Vrinda said."Kya? Lec aur itna kya ho raha hai tumhe dekho, main bhi toh bol rahi hu. Bolo bhi mujhe sunna hai... please... aadhe pe hi chhod diya baat ko. Yeh kya koi show hai TV pe jo keh raha baaki bacha hua break ke baad?" Vaidehi said, her curiosity at its peak."Accha, batati hu," Vrinda said as Vaidehi was forcing her to speak."Toh, main aur mere cousins ek game khel rahe the aur mujhe blindfold kiya tha sabne. Mujhe sabko pakadna tha par achanak..." Vrinda was about to speak, but the teacher scolded both of them."Will you two stop talking? You are in the classroom, the lecture is going, and you two are talking continuously," the teacher said."Sorry, ma'am," Vrinda and Vaidehi said in unison.Vrinda just glared at Vaidehi, and Vaidehi put both her hands on her ears, gesturing sorry to Vrinda with a pout. Vrinda just smiled back."Yeh aaj kyun nahi aaye? Subah se nahi dikhe..." Vrinda whispered, her eyes searching for Anish, who was not in the class.

Vrinda looked at Anish's seat, which was beside Shriyan, catching Shriyan's attention. Shriyan gestured with his hands, asking Vrinda if anything was wrong. Vrinda shook her head and shifted her focus to the lecture, but her mind was still on Anish.Vaidehi turned to look at Shriyan, who was focused on the lecture but looked so charming that it caught Vaidehi's attention. As Shriyan felt something, he looked at Vaidehi, who was looking at him. He smiled at Vaidehi, and Vaidehi smiled back before shifting her focus to the lecture again.As the lecture went on, Vaidehi's capacity to hold her excitement ended. She smiled back at Vrinda.

"Ab batao na," she said with the same excitement, making puppy eyes."Haan, toh hum sab khel rahe the aur main blindfolded thi. Mujhe mere baaki cousins ko pakadna tha. Tabhi galti se maine Anish ko pakad liya. Hume bhi laga hum sapna toh nahi dekh rahe. Par sach mein woh Anish hi tha..." Vrinda was about to continue."Kya? Hey prabhu, kahi main toh sapna nahi dekh rahi hu. Koi mujhe jagao," Vaidehi said dramatically but in shock, making Vrinda laugh."Toh ab Anish tumhara relative hai? Woh bhai toh nahi nikla na tumhara? Aisa kuch mat bolna. Sab shuru hone se pehle hi khatam ho jayega," Vaidehi said mischievously, her curiosity at its peak.

Till then, Shriyan came to Vrinda and gifted her a chocolate."Yeh kis liye?" Vrinda interrogated."Woh... mujhe Anish ne kaha tha tumhe dene ke liye," Shriyan said to Vrinda."Waise woh kyun nahi aaye? Tumhe kuch pata hai?" Vrinda interrogated."Nahi, aaj toh aane wala tha. Kyun nahi aaya, yeh toh mujhe nahi pata. Maine kal pucha tha toh usne kaha tha ki aaj aane wala hai. Main tumse wahi puchne wala tha ki tumhe pata hai kya woh kyun nahi aaya," Shriyan said."Nahi, par kuch pata chale toh batana. Thanks for the chocolate," Vrinda said."Waise tumhe sab pata hai?" Vrinda interrogated."Haan, Anish ne kal call kiya tha toh sab bata diya. Aur chocolate ke liye Anish ko thank you bolna," Shriyan said with a smile.Shriyan was about to leave, but then:"Ek minute ruko," Vaidehi said, catching the attention of both."Anish kyun tumhe chocolate dega? Aur woh Vrinda ko kyun batayega ki woh kyun nahi aaya? Tumhara best friend hai na, tumhe pata hona chahiye. Tumhe sab pata hai, aisa kya pata hai tumhe? Mujhe kuch samajh nahi aa raha hai. Koi mujhe bhi toh bata do," Vaidehi said, all confused, looking at both Vrinda and Shriyan.Shriyan was looking at Vaidehi and was about to say something until:"Shriyan, tum jao. Main isse bata dungi," Vrinda said to Shriyan."Thik hai," Shriyan said and left."Toh hum kaha the... aur ab beech mein mat bolna," Vrinda warned Vaidehi."Haan," Vaidehi said, all ears."Toh, woh mera bhai nahi hai. Woh mere mummy ke best friend ka beta hai. Aur hum dono relationship mein hai. Unhone mujhe propose kiya tha function ke time," Vrinda said to Vaidehi."Kya? Sacchi? Main pakka sapna dekh rahi hu na... Koi mujhe chimti kaato... sach hai kya ye? Toh ab tu single nahi rahi... tu bhi relationship mein hai... mujhe bataya bhi nahi... ek message toh kar sakti thi... Shriyan ko bhi pata hai?" Vaidehi said, making a fake cry."Arre, main tujhe mil ke batana chahti thi, iss liye nahi bataya. Sorry na," Vrinda said."Nahi, sirf sorry se kaam nahi chalega," Vaidehi said."Toh...?" Vrinda asked."Mujhe party chahiye aur woh bhi ek nahi do," Vaidehi said, winking at Vrinda."De toh dungi... par do kis baat ke?" Vrinda asked."Ek, mujhe bahot pareshan kiya, bataya nahi yeh sab toh mera man bahot dukhi hai toh uske liye... aur tu ab single nahi hai, isliye dusri," Vaidehi explained."Hey Kanha, yeh ladki bhi na... kuch nahi ho sakta tera," Vrinda said."Koi baat nahi, tu party de degi toh kuch ho jayega," Vaidehi said with a mischievous smile."Accha," Vrinda answered, raising one eyebrow.

They both were laughing.Meanwhile, Shriyan was eating his lunch alone as everyone was busy with their own friends. Vaidehi saw that and called Shriyan to join them."Shriyan, hame join kar lo," Vaidehi called out."Arre, koi baat nahi," Shriyan said."Arre, aa bhi jao... waise bhi Anish aane ke baad toh aana hi padega," Vaidehi teased, glancing at Vrinda who was blushing.Shriyan joined them, and they all had lunch together.

As all the lectures were over, Vrinda was going home, wondering why Anish hadn't come today. When she arrived home, she picked up her phone, thinking of messaging him to check if everything was alright. But as she was about to do so, her mother called her and told her something that left Vrinda happy and a little bit shocked.
