CHAPTER 5

┉┈◈◉◈┈┉

POV: Suzue Kujou

Ornate silk tapestries draped the walls, and the air was thick with the scent of incense, mingling with the faint whispers of conversations that seemed to echo from far away. Suzue was no longer herself. She felt confined, trapped inside another life, another body—Kaede’s.

She sat before an antique wooden vanity, the surface polished to a mirror-like sheen. As she gazed into the reflection, a chill ran down her spine. Kaede stared back at her, but it was like looking into a twisted mirror. The woman in the reflection had the same features as Suzue, the same eyes, the same delicate jawline. Yet, Kaede’s gaze was colder, more detached, and her expression held a maturity that Suzue hadn’t yet grown into. Her hair was styled in an elaborate updo, adorned with delicate combs and hairpins, each piece crafted with meticulous detail. And the clothes... Suzue’s heart twisted. Wedding attire.

The heavy, ceremonial garments draped over Kaede’s slender form, layers of fine silk embroidered with black and red patterns that seemed to ripple like fire in the low light. Suzue’s throat tightened at the sight, the sense of inevitability suffocating.

A sudden voice cut through the silence, sharp and filled with youthful frustration.

«Kaede.»

Suzue turned involuntarily, the movement not her own, to face a young boy standing in the doorway. He was only a few years older than he had been in the first vision, his features still youthful but edged with the determination of someone forced to grow up too quickly. His red eyes blazed, and his black hair fell messily around his face, making him look every bit the defiant spirit she instinctively knew him to be.

"The boy from before," Suzue realized, her heart clenching. Kaede's brother.

His expression was a storm of anger, his fists clenched at his sides. «You can't be serious,» he said, his voice breaking slightly. «You could leave this place anytime you wanted. No one could stop you. You know that, right? You don’t have to go through with this!»

Kaede—Suzue—didn’t react the way she expected. Her reflection in the mirror was unnervingly composed, her voice a calm, almost robotic monotone. «I have chosen this, brother. Tora loves me, and I love him. You’re overthinking this.» Her words were soft but unwavering, spoken with the unsettling tranquility of someone who had rehearsed the speech countless times.
