Caleb
The campus buzzed with excitement, an electric current running through the air as Freshers' Eve finally arrived. Weeks of planning, sleepless nights, and endless coordination had all led to this one evening. As head of the cultural department, every tiny detail was my responsibility. The lights, the performers, the decorations—everything had to be flawless. But no matter how hard I tried to focus on the event, my mind kept drifting back to her.
Elena.
I hadn't seen her since the morning, and it was driving me insane. My thoughts circled around her like an endless loop, her laugh, her smile, the way she made everything else feel irrelevant. The stress of the day felt unbearable, but not because of the event—it was because I missed her. And I couldn't shake off the hollow feeling that gnawed at me in her absence
Pulling out my phone, I typed out a quick text, the frustration in my chest bleeding through my words.
Caleb: Super annoyed that you haven't messaged me since morning! 😤
I tapped "send" and ran my hand through my hair, trying to shake the tension that had built up inside me. A few minutes later, my phone buzzed, and just seeing her name light up the screen gave me a sense of relief.
My girl: Oops! Me and Kiara were trying out our outfits. We're so excited!! 😋 What's going on your side?
I sighed, running my thumb across the screen as if that simple gesture would somehow bring her closer to me.
Caleb: Crazy busy! Running around making sure everything's perfect. I haven't had a moment to breathe.
My girl: Sounds intense! Hope everything's coming together.
Caleb: It is, but I gotta say, I really miss you right now :(
Her response took a few seconds, but it felt like hours.
My girl: We'll meet in the evening. Don't be a baby now! 🫵🏻
Her teasing made me smirk, but it wasn't enough to take away the sharp edge of longing cutting through me. I needed to see her before the event, not later. I needed to feel her next to me, hear her voice, anything to ease the restlessness that had settled in my chest.
Caleb: I'll give you a call. Meet me at the cafeteria. I need to see you before everything starts.
A pause, longer than usual. Then her reply.
My girl: No, Caleb. It's only a few hours. I have things to do!
Her resistance only stoked the fire already simmering inside me. This wasn't a request—it was a need.
Caleb: I'm not asking, El. Just be there when I call.
A moment later, her reply came through, her words dripping with exasperation.
My girl: You and your stubborn ass!
Fuck you!😤I chuckled, imagining her rolling her eyes at me.
Caleb: One day, you will. 😉
I leaned back, imagining her flustered expression as she read the text. Despite the humor, beneath it all, there was an urgency I couldn't shake—a possessive need to see her.
As noon approached, I found a small pocket of time amidst the chaos. I dialed her number, the phone ringing twice before she picked up.
"El, meet me in the cafeteria. Five minutes" I said, my voice leaving no room for negotiation.
