James pov;

The pack house loomed before me as I pulled into the driveway, its familiar silhouette a stark contrast to the turmoil in my mind. I killed the engine but didn't move, my hands still gripping the steering wheel. Alex's scent lingered on my clothes, a constant reminder of the mate I'd left behind at the inn.

A knock on the car window startled me. Noah, my beta, peered in, his blue eyes filled with curiosity. I took a deep breath and stepped out of the car.

"So," Noah said, a hint of a smile on his face, "how did the date go with your mate?"

I ran a hand through my hair, the events of the last few hours with him rushing through my mind. "It's... complicated but fun also, Noah."

"When is it not?" he chuckled, falling into step beside me as we headed towards the house. "The others are waiting inside. They're eager to hear about the human who stole our Alpha's heart."

As we entered, I caught sight of Henry and Oliver in the living room. They stood as I walked in, their expressions a mix of excitement and concern.

"Alpha," Henry greeted, his light brown eyes scanning me. "How's the mate?"

I sank into my usual armchair, the weight of the situation settling heavily on my shoulders. "His name is Alex," I started, unable to keep the fondness from my voice. "He's... incredible. But also completely unaware of our world."

"Did you tell him anything?" Oliver asked, leaning forward.

I shook my head. "No. It's too soon. He's only in town for a job - some kind of security consulting. There's a lot I don't know about him yet."

Noah's brow furrowed. "Security consulting? That sounds..."

"Suspicious?" I finished for him. "Yeah, I thought so too. There's something he's not telling me."

"What are you going to do?" Henry asked, ever practical.

I leaned back, closing my eyes for a moment. Alex's face flashed in my mind - his blue eyes, his shy smile, the way he'd looked at me this morning. "I'm going to court him," I said finally, opening my eyes to meet their gazes. "Slowly. Carefully. I can't risk scaring him away or putting him in danger."

"And us?" Oliver asked. "How do you want us to proceed?"

I considered this. "For now, keep your distance. But be prepared. I may need your help in easing him into our world when the time comes."

They nodded, their loyalty evident in their expressions.

"There's something else," I added, remembering Alex's guarded responses about his work. "I need you to discreetly look into any unusual activity in town. Anything that might hint at what kind of 'security consulting' he's doing."

Noah nodded, already pulling out his phone. "I'll get on it right away. Any leads?"

I shook my head. "Not much. He's staying at the Pinewood Inn. Brown hair, blue eyes, about 5'8". Goes by Alex, but I'm not sure if that's his full name."

"Consider it done," Noah assured me.

As my pack members began to discuss plans and possibilities, I found my mind drifting back to Alex. The memory of his kiss, the feel of him in my arms, the way his scent called to my very soul - it was intoxicating.

But with it came a wave of protectiveness. Whatever Alex was involved in, whatever secrets he was keeping, I would find a way to keep him safe. To bring him into my world without losing him.

"James," Henry's voice pulled me from my thoughts. "What about the Omega situation? We can't ignore it much longer."

I sighed, the reminder of pack politics a harsh return to reality. "I know. We'll address it at the next full moon gathering. For now, make sure everyone knows to be on their best behavior. We can't afford any incidents, not with Alex in town."

They all nodded in agreement.

As the discussion continued, touching on pack matters and potential strategies for introducing Alex to our world, I made a silent vow. I would find a way to make this work. For the sake of my pack, for Alex, and for the future I suddenly saw possible with him by my side.

The path ahead was uncertain, filled with potential pitfalls and dangers. But for the first time in years, I felt a glimmer of hope. I had found my mate. Now, I just had to find a way to keep him.
