Dan’s tender voice and the soft tone of a nurse swam above Carrie’s head as she was sped towards the room where she would deliver her daughter. She found herself lost to the pain of the contractions, grimacing as they pulsed through her body, grasping her belly. Above her, she heard; ‘fully dilated’ and ‘almost there’. It hurts, Mama where are you? Oh gosh, why didn’t you tell me? It hurts, Mama, oh gosh! She wept inwardly. Margaret would of course, be little to no help in this circumstance, but Carrie’s panic knew no limits. The nurse was waving a hand towards a door now, her mouth was moving but Carrie’s panic forbade her to make out the words. Dan left her side, leaving her line of sight. Where’s he going? No, Dan come back! It hurts! She internally moaned. A door opened and Carrie was wheeled into a room.  Seconds after she was settled, Dan took her hand.”Don’t you leave me.”She panted.”Not now, not ever.”Dan assured her, kissing her hand.”It’s time to push Miss Snell.”The nurse urged her. Carrie obliged, gritting her teeth. The small table beside her bed rose and the lights above flashed rapidly.”Again!”The nurse said.”You can do this Carrie.”Dan encouraged her. She pushed again, screaming, her nails clawing the fabric of her bed. Medical supplies hit the floor, causing the nurse to jump a little.”One more time!”She urged. Carrie’s head fell back against the pillow, her chest came forward as she screamed, and she knew that if Dan kept his hand, he’d be lucky.

The cries of a baby.

Carrie stopped breathing for a moment. The noise was somber yet beautiful.

The cries of a baby.

My baby. Carrie thought as the room settled, now free of her telekinetic panic.”Carrie, you’ve done it.”Dan said, kissing her temple. Carrie’s breath came again as she watched the nurse secure her daughter within a pink blanket.”It’s a little girl.”The nurse smiled.”Born healthily on January Ninth at twelve o’clock P.M.. I have a daughter. This revelation brought tears to Carrie’s eyes and the amount rose as her daughter was settled within her arms. Her eyes belonged to her father, a heart-melting autumn-brown and her other features were owned by her mother.”Did you pick out a name?”Dan asked as Carrie kissed her forehead.”Miriam, Miriam Kellyanne Snell.”Carrie replied.”What about Miriam Kellyanne Torrance?”Dan asked; Carrie’s eyes rose to his in surprise.”Carrie, you’re the only woman that I would ever want standing by my side, and the only woman who I’ve wanted to present with this one question.”He said. He got down on his knees before her, his eyes never leaving her’s.”Will you, Carrie Snell, marry me?”He asked.”Yes!”Carrie cried.”Yes!”He leaned in to kiss her, one hand stroking her cheek. In corner-sight she saw Abra, Lucy, and David enter.”How about I go and call Sue while you introduce Abra and her parents to the newest family member?”He smiled.”Okay.”Carrie said. Abra came forward first as her uncle left, a smile spreading across her face as her eyes looked upon the tiny figure within Carrie’s arms.”Abra, meet your cousin.”Carrie said.”Cousin?”Lucy asked.”Dan proposed.”Carrie revealed.”You mean that you’re gonna be my aunt; for real?”Abra smiled.”Yes.”Carrie smiled and kissed Abra’s cheek. Abra smiled at Carrie and then turned her gaze to Miriam.”What’s her name?”She asked.”Miriam Kellyanne.”Carrie replied.”Can I call her Miri?”Abra asked.”I don’t see why not.”Carrie laughed. She returned her gaze to her daughter as she cooed softly.”Besides I think that she likes it.”She said.”Hi Miri.”Abra said. She slid into the bed beside Carrie and took one of the infant’s tiny hands, smiling. Dan returned, the sight of his niece with his fiancé and daughter spurring a smile.”Sue’s on her way with Genesis.”He said.”Carrie’s sister and niece, right?”David said.”Yes, trust me it’ll be better for you to meet them then to just hear me talk about them.”Dan replied. He rejoined Carrie at her bedside and, with a smile and one hand holding tight to Miriam’s, Carrie brought her nose to his.
