"..there it is."

I said—speaking aloud to myself. A breathe escaped my lips as I finally came to a stop in front of the large black gates with metal bars strung from the top to the bottom. The gate was already open. At least for the people who had been invited here anyway. I still really wasn't sure what I was doing here though. Or why I had even been invited here.

Then again, they.. had stated why they wanted me to come here when that little letter of there's just one day arrived at my doorstep. Printed with a black symbol of their logo on the back as I tore open the envelope. I had merely been sipping some tea a few moments ago on that Saturday afternoon, only to receive a knock at my door, and a letter on my doorstep. Seeing the logo, I figured it must have been that annual lottery thing again (though I was never the type for luck), or figured they must have been trying to ask me for some kind of favor. After all, word of my reputation had been spread around for a little while already.

Yet when I read the letter, it wasn't just for some favor, and it wasn't the lottery thing. No. In fact, it was an invite.

The letter had read:

"Word of your skills, reputation, and background have recently come to our attention. And due to your admirable work, we, as the school of Hope's Peak Academy, have decided we want you to join our school as the Ultimate Paleontologist."

"You will be assigned to Class 78. And will be given special assignments to do with your own functions and work. We hope you enjoy your time with us here, if you do decide to accept out invite."

And.. well, that was the basic gist of it. The other stuff was just some endless paragraphs describing all the other people I'd be sat with if I decided to join. Along with a bunch of stuff I'd have to sign if I even accepted.

I thought about declining at first. After all, there wasn't really a point was there? I was a normal girl. Just because I found a few interesting fossils here and there when I was younger doesn't mean I really deserved to be here. If anything, people like the Ultimate Pop Sensation or the Ultimate Fashonista deserved to be on there way more than I did with the few things I had seen of them.

..then again, what was the point of any refusal? I basically had nothing to do. No one to go to, and nothing I really ever did outside of my work was that interesting. Maybe it was time I invested myself in my work a little more. I didn't really care for much of anything outside of my job right now anyway. So, I decided to agree, and to sign the millions of things they told me to sign.

Oh. Right. I—haven't told you who I was, have I?

I'm Y/N. Y/N L/N. 18 years old. At a young age, I was always filled with more curiosity than anyone when it came to science, though specifically the study of fossils. Anytime dinosaurs were brought up, my eyes would light up, and anytime ancient humans were brought up, it was like a switch had been turned on in my brain. I found myself making such good grades when it came to those assignments that my teacher reached out my parents just to let them know of my skill.

My parents sort of already knew of my interest, but upon seeing my grades, they quickly became rather.. invested in trying to improve my skills far beyond the strength that they were already at. And so, they put me into many clubs. Many groups with equally talented children. They were sort of helpful, albeit a bit boring in all honesty.

Yet—the discovery that led to my name becoming even as known as it was didn't happen in any of these clubs. I had been playing in the forest by myself one day, when out of the blue, I noticed something white sticking out just from underneath the brown dirt. Not really white though. Rather.. almost yellow in a way. Curious, and with enough instinct from the clubs I had joined already, I began to dig with the toy shovel I had brought. And finally, after hours, I dug it up to the point of being able to see what it was.
