"Makoto... You coming?" Yukari asked as they were walking around the city of Tokyo. Makoto was starting to lag behind Yukari as she was roaming the city. Makoto jogged to catch up, he didn't want to leave Yukari alone in this larger city. As he was starting to get closer to her a group of tough-looking guys stepped from around a corner. Makoto saw them surround Yukari.
"Heh, what's a pretty girl like you doing all alone in the big city? Don't tell me you got lost." The head thug tried to intimidate Yukari but it didn't work. "What do you losers want? Besides harassing girls you shouldn't mess with." The thugs laughed at one tried to grab Yukari by her arm. Just then Makoto walked up. As the thug grabbed Yukari's arm Makoto grabbed his. The thug looked towards Makoto just as he received a massive right hook to the jaw. The thug fell to the floor hard as the other two looked over in surprise. "Who the hell are you?" Makoto popped his neck and knuckles as he stared at the two remaining thugs.
"Her boyfriend. And if you two wanna wake up without any broken bones, I'd suggest you leave." The two thugs looked Makoto up and down. The leader waved for his partner to go in. It was a very poor choice, as the thug swung at Makoto, he grabbed the guy's arm twisting it around his back before lifting it up rapidly breaking the arm. The guy fell to the ground in pain as the leading thug stepped back and ran away. Makoto then turned around to see Yukari with a shocked expression. Makoto walked up to her and checked to see if she was ok.
"I'll be fine. Are you ok? You didn't have to rough them up that badly." Makoto grunted at her comment. "Thanks though. Now come on, we've gotta get back to the mansion. Makoto and Yukari held hands the whole rest of the walk back to Mitsuru's mansion. Makoto was dreading having to fight but he was willing to do it if Yukari or any of his friends were in danger. Yukari gave Makoto a blindfold as they got into the mansion. He was confused why she was having him put it on but went along with it. She guided him around the mansion and into the enormous dining room. "Ok, you can take the blindfold off." As Makoto took the blindfold off the room's lights turned on and all his friends stood in front of him yelling, "Surprise!" Makoto was confused until he remembered Yukari asking him about his birthday. This was all a surprise party to celebrate him. Makoto began to have tears well up in his eyes before he fell to his knees crying with a smile on his face. Yukari knelt down next to him giving him a warm hug.
"When Takeba informed me about you turning 19 today, I knew I had to make preparations for the party. We've also prepared a cake for the occasion. Iori was the one who helped pick out some presents. Happy birthday Yuki." Mitsuru was stood in the center of his friends wishing him a happy birthday. "Yeah man, Mitsuru kinda yelled the info down the hallway. But I'm glad we knew beforehand. Let's make this the best party every!" Junpei was excited for everyone being here. Ken and Koromaru were also there just to celebrate Makoto's birthday.
The party was filled with laughs and joy as everyone gifted Makoto different things. Akihiko got Makoto a new pair of boxing gloves. Mitsuru pitched in and got Makoto a new pair of headphones. Junpei got him a collector's set of baseball cards. Ken didn't have a gift but him being there was enough. Yukari's present was the most heartwarming of all. It was a necklace with a pendant on it. When Makoto opened it it was a photo of him and Yukari together with the letters M *heart* Y.

Makoto was holding back tears, he hadn't experienced a day like this in a long time. All his friends were super happy, enjoying the party. Later on in the night, Makoto was getting up to make a midnight snack when he noticed Junpei was watching TV in one of the lounges in the mansion. As Makoto left the kitchen he saw Junpei just as a strange scene came up on the TV. On the screen was Junpei, he looked confused as Makoto walked in. "What's going on Junpei?" He looked to Makoto confused, just then the scariest thing Makoto could have seen happened. Junpei vanished as a mist flew from the TV grabbing him. Junpei was sucked into the TV. Makoto cried out, "Junpei!" The yelling woke everyone up as they came rushing into the room asking what was going on. Makoto explained what he saw. "Junpei was sitting here watching TV when he showed up on the TV. Then out of nowhere he just gets sucked into it." Mitsuru sighed.
"I was afraid of this. I was hoping we had more time, but I suppose we don't. Part of the reason I brought you all to Tokyo is because the Kirijo group is investigating a strange amount of murders going on in the area. People have been getting sucked into their televisions and end up dead soon after. We were worried it was shadow related as a select few came out alive but with very similar symptoms to Apathy Syndrome." Everyone just looked at Mitsuru with surprise, except Akihiko and Shinjiro. Makoto realized they were keeping the info from them until now. "I want everyone to get some rest. Tomorrow we'll be testing one of the Kirijo group projects to enter this TV world. Iori will be fine. He can handle himself." Mitsuru then walked out of the room and went back to bed. Everyone struggled to get any rest that night as they worried about Junpei.
