CHAPTER THIRTEEN
A Cut To The ThroatNow they were on the train to Paris and Lorelai was stuck with Ethan. "Give me Max." He said to the phone. "My apologies, Max. It couldn't be helped. There's a piece of black cloth under your seat. Tear it away, you'll find the disk. Not as long as you tell me where the money is. What about Job?"
Ethan looked at her, and she nodded, hiding behind a cart in her all black clothing. She had her earpiece connected to Ranford, that way she could record things, and Ethan put the mask on to look like Phelps.
"Ethan's right behind me. Listen, Jim, is it such a good idea to kill him? Kittridge is here. We take the money. Ethan takes the blame, not to mention how he brought Lorelai Myers, an outsider, here. No one else has seen you alive. No one will believe him." Claire explained.
Ethan peeled the mask off while Lorelai walked out of her hiding spot to be beside Ethan. "Of course... I'm very sorry to hear that, Claire." Ethan said, taking the trench coat off.
"Ethan. Lorelai."
Then Phelps came out from the door, pointing a gun at Ethan, then he pointed it at Lorelai, and back and forth. "Yes, Ethan Hunt and Lorelai Myers, darling. You remember them, don't you?" Phelps mused.
Ethan helped Lorelai move behind him, but she stepped over to the side.
"You knew about Jim?"
"Of course. Just exactly when either of them knew is something of a question. Mind telling me, Ethan? Lorelai? Before or after I showed up in London?"
"Way before." Lorelai answered for herself.
"Before London... but after you took the Bible from the Drake Hotel in Chicago."
"They stamped it, didn't they? Those damn Gideons."
"Ethan, Lorelai, if you knew about Jim, why—"
"Why the masquerade? Why take the risk?"
"Doesn't matter." Lorelai answered.
"I knew about Jim."
"He didn't know about you, but Lorelai did, didn't you?"
Lorelai clenched her jaw, already prepared to kill him right now.
"Let's just get the money and get out of here." Claire told Phelps.
"Yes, let's get the money."
"Ethan, the money."
"Give her the money."
"All ten million."
"You know, Claire was wrong about one thing, Jim." Ethan told him.
"Oh, what's that?"
Ethan lifted up a pair of glasses, "we're not the only ones who've seen you alive."
"You bitch and you son of a bitch." Phelps snarled, making Lorelai smirk.
"It's over, Jim." Ethan stated, taking the glasses off and throwing it at him.
"Don't. Don't, Jim."
Phelps wasn't a complete idiot, he knew where to hurt Ethan, he shot Lorelai instead. Well, he shot her a few times, making Ethan look at Lorelai, making sure she was somewhat okay before attacking Phelps. Claire was caught in a crossfire and killed almost immediately, but Ethan was almost knocked out. He lazily crawled over to Lorelai.
He held the side of her face, seeing the gash on the side of it from colliding with the floor after Phelps had pushed her forcefully. "It's gonna be okay—"
"Of course it's gonna be okay, I've been through worse." Lorelai grunted out as she started removing a bullet. Then they both heard the helicopter. "We gotta go, Hunt." Lorelai told him. Ethan helped her stand and then she was fine from there.
They got to the top of the train.
"What stupid train goes one million kilometers an hour!?" She hollered through the wind.
They both looked up and saw Krieger. Ethan's suit jacket flew off and flew past Phelps, making him look at both agents. Ethan aggressively took the neck tie off too. Ethan was the first to let go of the handle to get to Phelps, while Lorelai rolled on her side and managed to somewhat step on Phelps' hand to break it, to which he yelled in pain. Phelps kicked both Ethan and Lorelai to the side of the train.
The helicopter was in the damn tunnel. And another train was on the opposite side at full speed, so Lorelai hauled herself up. Lorelai managed to get enough grip with one hand so she threw one of her knives at Phelps and another at a specific part of the helicopter, which managed to stir up some form of trouble. But now, Lorelai and Ethan were both being chased by the helicopter propeller. Thankfully, it started to stall.
Ethan jumped onto the leg of the helicopter and was holding something while yelling something about lights, then he pressed it against the window of the helicopter. Ethan was sent flying back to the train, right beside Lorelai. And as the fire rolled closer, the screeching was almost unbearable to Lorelai's ears. One of the blades stopped at Ethan's neck, but another managed to scratch a part of Lorelai's throat and jaw.
"Well that's gonna leave a mark." Lorelai managed to joke. But her voice was raspy because of the cut.
Ethan being concerned for his future wife—
And her making a joke after a near-death experience...
Okay, bye!
