The minute class is over Camila is gone, out of her seat faster than the clock can tick to the next second. What had she been thinking? Obviously, she wanted to prove a point to that big-headed idiot, but to kiss Lauren? Lauren, who had been given no warning whatsoever, when they had never done that before. What had she been thinking?

Her embarrassment grows steadily as she leaves the crime scene until a firm hand stops her from going further.

"Camz."

Oh no.

Her eyes shut tight, Camila is hoping that she doesn't have to see what she already knows, but even without sight, she can feel as her body is tugged in another direction.

"Camz, look at me."

"Nope, no way," Camila replies.

"I'm going to tickle you if you don't."

She hates being tickled. Fuck.

"Alright," she relents, peeling her eyelids apart to release her brown eyes back into the sunlight. Back into the view of Lauren standing before her with concern etched like a stencil on her face.

"Why did you run off?"

"I," Okay, how does she answer this honestly? Does she admit that she's always liked Lauren and she's running off because she thinks she might have just ruined the one thing she has of her - her friendship? Or does she answer that she's running off because her lips haven't stopped tingling with the sensation of their kiss, and that she might be tempted to do it again?

Lauren doesn't give her the chance to decide when she inquires, "Don't you want to go to the park?"

The park is this little patch of field that they go to after class, with the rest of their friends to play football. It's not anything special, just a casual kick about with Ally and Dinah, while Lauren and Normani sit and watch. With Summer fervent in the air, it's a good day to be outside, but she can't. How can she be normal around Lauren right now? It's just not possible.

"Sorry, 'm not feeling well."

"Oh, you should have said. I'll walk you back-"

"No! Uh, I mean no. It's alright. You go hang out with everyone else, tell them I'll see them later."

Lauren's eyes - that have a funny way of controlling Camila's heart with every glance, round with worry, but she gives in. "Okay. Call me if you need anything. I can bring you soup."

"I'm good Lo, you go on."

Eventually, she does, allowing Camila to stand and watch as she goes. It's the most beautiful and difficult thing for her to witness, but it has to be done. She's done too much. When she returns to her flat alone, she spends the whole night berating herself over the events that occurred, because really -

What had she been thinking?

What had she honestly been thinking?

**

Three in the morning comes after hours of unachieved sleep, with Camila reminiscing about all she and Lauren have done together. They've been best friends since they were infants, due to their Mother's having been inseparable throughout their youth, too. It was fated for their families to be close, written in the stars. But she always knew that the way she felt about Lauren - her love and affection towards Lauren - wasn't the same as what their Mother's had. Wasn't the same as what she and her other friends had.

It was different. It was more.

The first time that Camila knew she loved Lauren, as more than a friend, was when they were six. Lauren's family was over for Sunday Game Night, but at this point in the evening, Lauren's younger siblings Taylor and Chris were off with Camila's younger sister Sofia, their parents were gossiping, and Camila and Lauren were left to their own devices. It wasn't anything out of the ordinary.
