So, here's the thing, Rose will be the first person to admit, yes, she is indecisive, a bad excuse of an athlete, and worst of all, a quitter. Why does she think this? Well because she has never -outside the sports her mom made her 'play' when she was 8-11- played the same thing longer than 2 years.
Though rose has only lived 15 years, she knows, this is not a good thing, no matter how impressed her gym Teachers are when they learn they have an assistant in all sports. You know how there was always that one person who can do a sport, and the teacher kinda forces them to help? Yep, that was Rose, all the time. Though she can't complain when the reward comes in a form of an easy top grade, well in 2 classes actually.
The Norwegian school system really helped her there, for once. Seeing as though she was in grade 9, and said grade was near its end, she knew, life was soon over. After grade 10, she was moving up to grade 1, and by that point, everyone had their life together. After all, grade 1 is a rebirth, kinda. In grade 1, you choose your life, your future, you choose who you want to be. You choose what you will study the next 3-4 years. So, her time was near the end, she needed to find her thing by the end of next year!

Rose was quietly sleeping -or trying to sleep- in her classroom, but nope, some girl in the back really had other planes. Taking loudly like they were a podcast everyone in the room had to listen too, kinda like the English teachers homework. In a school full of teachers who had to teach there, he was the only one who never gave up on anyone. He even believed students when they said they did listen to whatever 1 hour topic he had found that week, didn't even question them.
"Sorry, I really need to focus next year" one of the girls in the back said "you know, if I want to have a decent future and all"
Probably an exaggeration, not like Rose knew, for all they understood, next year was the year. Fail 10th grade, is game over, even doing bad it felt like. The grades next year would after all determine if they get into their top pick course, and to get into there, the competition was only your entire class, plus grade, plus anyone else who applied. Sure, a spot somewhere was guaranteed, but that was the leftovers.
"Come on" the girl persisted "it's only 3 hours a week"
Though the competition did wound scary, not everyone does apply to the same course, or school for the matter, so prioritizing free time was still an option. After all, not everyone views this system as a life or death. Most don't even know what they want to be, so choosing a course is kind of not a big deal, where they land, they land.
"3 hours I could spend studying"
Some of those people however might still have good grades, and don't rely on a singular plan. Hell, the others without a plan might not even make it, like, get a job and still live with their parents at the age of 40. Or they do get a job from the course, and get stuck doing that for the rest of their lives, a job they half heartedly choose on a whim when they were 15 or 16.
Or worse, what if you do have a plan, but don't have the grades to get into the course required, what then? Plan B, which is plan B for a reason, and not plan A. Can you really afford slacking off when your entire future is soon knocking on the door waiting for your answer? Rose can see and feel the time ticking, she knows when she is supposed to answer, she knows her answer might be rejected, but what she doesn't know, is what to say
