The hockey rink was always a comforting place to you. You didn't know why — it wasn't like you skated or played hockey or anything. You just found it be nice and cold, the aura of it all was peaceful.

Besides, it wasn't like people came here often. You worked at the rink and around 9pm was when no one came around. And it didn't close till almost 10. You just leaned back in one of the seats and took in the view and quietness of it all.

A sudden knocking noise alerted you, you sat up and watched curiously as a masked person walked in. You didn't do anything since you immediately took notice of the person's hockey stick in their hand.

You saw as they dropped a puck on the icy ground. They slid around on their skates, the sound of the ice underneath them only intrigued you more into watching them.

They looked to be a professional hockey player. They slid around and practiced scoring goals for about an hour until you checked the time and realized you had to close up.

The mystery player stopped and leaned against the walls nearby. They lifted their mask off and you were in awe when a beautiful woman was revealed to be underneath. She tilted her head back to catch her breath.

You looked at her and she made eye contact with you. You stood up, swinging the keys to lock the place up around your finger. She stared at you, glancing between you and your finger, then to your eyes.

"I'm closing up." You break the silence between you two.

The girl smiled a little and nodded. "I'll be out of your hair." You watched her skate over to scoop her puck up, holding her stick in the other hand. As you approached the outside of the rink, she leaned against the wall — her chin resting on it as she looked at you with a dopey grin. "You skate?"

"Nope." You popped the 'p'. "Just work here."

"I'm Tate by the way." The mystery girl introduced herself and you were internally happy that you could put a name to the face.

"Y/N." Tate grabbed your hand and kissed the back of it. "Charming."

"I can be." She was cocky, but you loved it.

You chuckled and flicked the side of her helmet. "Time to go." Tate playfully rolled her eyes but exited the rink anyway. She followed you as you flipped the lights off in each room you walked in. You pulled down the metal door that hid the snack bar and all of the expensive gear.

Tate sat down on the bench as you took the money from the register, walking to the manager's office and placing it in a safe. You walked back out with your paycheck in an envelope.

"Is that your own gear or...?" You asked Tate who stood up and walked towards you.

"It's mine." She approached you and you could feel your nerves spike. "You live around here?"

"Why should I tell you? You're a stranger." You teased slightly. Tate smirked a little and chuckled.

"You're right." She gently placed her hands on your hips after double checking that you weren't uncomfortable. "Can I get to know you then?"

"Smooth." You played along, placing a hand on her chest and pushing her back a little. You grabbed her hockey stick off the wall, guiding her out the building.

You locked it up and turned around to see Tate leaning against a wall in the nearby alley. You walked over to her, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear.

"You hungry?" Tate stared at you, causing you to shrug your shoulders.

"A little. Why?" She just smiled at you and held her hand out.

"Let's not be strangers and go eat some pancakes." You felt a smile tug at your lips as you let out a giggle, grabbing her strong hand in yours. "Let's drop my shit off at my car and we'll go, a diner is right down the street."

"Can't wait." You grinned up at her.
