Going into work the next day knowing I was on shift with both Hannah and Sofia wasn't an enjoyable feeling. I walk through the double-door entrance greeting a few paramedics and staff members outside the building, holding my obnoxious coffee I bought from a hipster café down the street, although the aesthetic is not my thing the prices were amazing. As I walked in and saw Lewis he lisped "I'm sorry" before turning away to help a patient

"Lauren." I looked behind me to see a blonde woman that happens to be my best friend "Stewy fucking Hosseini! Out of all the men in New York, you go for that piece of shit?" She asked incredulously following me to the staff room where I could get my jacket off and put on my work coat.

"I'm not fucking Stewy. He wishes I was but I'm not." She looks at me sceptically not believing me "Jesus you're just like my brother." I put my hands on her shoulders "I am not fucking Stewy Hosseini. Okay?" to which she reluctantly nodded but before we could get to work the head of Sofia popped in

"You're screwing Stewy Hosseini?" I just sighed in annoyance, why does my sex life have to be cared about by half the medical staff and surely most of the business sector?

"No Sof, I'm not. Please spread that around" Before I could leave the room my phone buzzed signifying; I had a text. I opened my phone to see a text from Stewy

'Yeah, the entire of Waystar Thinks I'm fucking their CEO's perfect little daughter.'

'yeah well entire of the ED thinks I'm screwing the biggest asshole in NYC'

I put my phone in my pocket and got to work, a young girl who fell playing soccer seemed to have hurt her leg

"Hi, I'm Dr Roy, Annabelle but You can call me Lauren" I introduced myself to the child and what I assumed to be her guardian behind her

"Hi, Lucy, I'm Annabelles' mom. She was out playing soccer with her big brothers. They got a little too rough for her and fell. She's been complaining of a sore ankle so thought it best to bring her here."

"Okay. That's big brothers for you." I tell the child while feeling her ankle to see if it was broken "I have three. Can't count on one hand how many times I hurt my arm or leg while playing with them." She looked smiling, and the mom although a worried look on her face seemed glad that I was distracting her child best way possible "I always one though" I pretended to whisper making her giggle. I look at Lucy "I think Annabelle has fractured her Tibia. That's the inside of her ankle. But it's fine we can do a small operation to fix it up however she will have to be put in a cast for a few weeks." The mother nodded sitting on the bed next to her daughter "Good news Annabelle you get a week off school. Bad news: no playing soccer with your brothers for quite a while."

I smile at both people before heading out of that bay paging paediatrics that they will be getting a child with a broken tibia. I go up to the counter where I see James

"You." I snarl

"Now let's be grownups about this." He replied wary of me "You got into a car with him what were we supposed to think? Not to mention the flirting at the bar"

"I'm not sleeping with him!"

"Of course you're not."

"Don't patronise me!" I say as my phone buzzes to show Connor's contact

'Miscounted seats. Please tell me you're bringing a plus one?'

"What are you doing tonight?" I asked James after reading the text from my eldest brother

"Nothing to my knowledge. Why?" He replied once again wary and confused

"Well since you owe me" he tried to disagree and interrupt but I shot that down with the harshest Roy glare I could manage "Fancy going to a posh night out at a gala?" giving him a sweet smile "Open bar? Laugh at all the horrendous suits and dresses? The only thing you have to deal with is people trying to converse with me. But when you make them feel awkward enough by talking about work, they go away quite quickly" I tried to convince him
