It had been nearly two months since that day, and Oswald had been relentlessly studying and preparing for the mission. He saw no good outcomes for himself in this plan, for if he killed Charles then he'd feel guilt-ridden, but if he refused to end him, then Francisco would end Oswald. For crying out loud! What should I do? Neither choice is good, but ultimately I'll have to choose one. There is always the chance that I could hide myself from that old man, but then he would send someone else to do the job, and I'd be running for the rest of my life. Just then it hit Oswald. I know! Why didn't I think of that sooner? I'll hide Charles away rather than killing him, and once he understands the situation we could organize a fake death for him. No, Oswald realized, he'd have to hide away for the rest of his life, I can't do that to him!
"Troubled, Master?" Jacques' sudden entrance startled Oswald, though it was nice to see a friendly face every once in a while.
Oswald smiled. "I guess you could say that Jacques. Just a little anxious for the upcoming task." Jacques was the only person outside of the Quantis family to know about the business, as he was the only staff member in the whole mansion.
"Well if I didn't know any better I'd say that it's more than just that." Jacques chuckled.
Oswald saw the opportunity for assistance and seized it. This butler was the only man he could trust with anything. "Perceptive as always, Jacques. Between you and me, I absolutely wish not to kill Charles, bit if I don't then he'll still wind up dead anyways. I thought that perhaps I could pretend to kill him and he could hide away, but that would also strip him of his life. I just don't know what to do and it's infuriating!"
Jaques paused for a moment, it was clear that he was shocked by Oswald's sudden outburst of honesty, anyone who knew him would be. The elderly butler then did something quite unusual, he grabbed Oswald by his stiff shoulders and grimly said, "Are you sure you want to go down this road, Master? Once you start there will be no turning back until it is finished."
"What do you mean? What are you talking about?"
"Obliterating the Quantis family of course," Jacques said with a sly grin on his face.
Oswald was taken by surprise with Jacques' absurd words. "Why would we do that?" He questioned, yet Oswald could admit that those words from Jacques sparked a fire in him, but he just wasn't quite ready to reveal that yet.
"Even you have to admit that your family's evil has gone on for far too long. The very reason I took this job was to get close to the heart of the problem, for the past five years I've been trying to take this family down from the inside," Jacques said with a fiery look in his eyes.
"Why befriend me then? Why were you so kind to a child of the very organization you were trying to overthrow?!"
Jacques sighed in exhaustion, he seemed to be getting quite tired of explaining things. "The moment I saw you I could tell that you were different from the others. You didn't have the same red glare in your eyes, and as I got closer to you I truly began to consider you a true friend, and hopefully in the future an ally."
Oswald smiled. This was the first time Jacques had confirmed that they were friends, and it warmed his heart to know so. "Well how do you propose we take down my family? It's not exactly like we have a whole military on our side."
"Oh but we could. Remember that fellow that you need to execute? Well it just so happens that he has the world's strongest military at his side, and I'm sure that you could convince him to aid us in our goal." Jacques monocle seemed to glimmer, although the sun had already set. Oswald nodded in confirmation.
Roughly one week later, he and Jacques had constructed a near foolproof plan. He would carry out the start of the mission the same way, infiltrate the castle, discover a way to sneak into Charles' room, and await his arrival. The change was that rather than killing him, Oswald would inform the prince of their plan, and request aid in bringing down the Quantis family. Assuming he said yes, they would then proceed to inform the King and Queen of their plan, of whom would record themselves publicly announcing Charles' "death."
The reason they couldn't just outright launch missiles at the Quantis residence was because they had many ties across the planet, and it could have potential to start another war. Thus introduced another issue; the Zeroin Frame. Developed in 2345, the Zeroin Frame was revolutionary. Large mechs with human pilots within, storing enough firepower to take down warships. They were created to help rebuild the ruins of the war, but quickly evolved into military class weapons. They contained thrusters on the back, granting it immense speed and flight capabilities; and all sorts of weapons ranging from massive firearms to steel-cutting swords.
Each member of the Quantis family had mastered control of the Frames, and had the ability to wipe out hundreds of troops with ease. Sending militia directly at them head on wouldn't work, as they would be wiped out in mere seconds. Their plan, however, addressed all of these issues head-on.
To start with, they would have to tear down the Quantis family's major allies, of which consisted of three other infamous crime syndicates that had been untouched for years. None of these groups were allied with each other, but all of them had ties with the Quantis family, so they would need to operate swiftly and take out the three before the info reached the others. Each syndicate had its own challenges, but by taking advantage of their weaknesses, a small strike squad could potentially take down each of them within four days. After ten days would be when the typical routine checkup would occur, of where each one reports their current status. If they could eradicate the syndicates by then, from the end of one meeting till the start of another, it would put them in a rather advantageous position. Before war could be waged on them, all of the Quantis' allies and their troops would be gone, leaving only the family left.
Next, the same strike squad led by Oswald that would eliminate the syndicates would infiltrate Quantis territory, and slowly but surely would make their way up the mountain to the mansion. It would be no easy task, as traps such as missiles and poison gas would be awaiting them on the mountain road, but they would need to persevere. Close range combat in the Zeroin Frames would surely be in the future, and they would need to prepare, but first came gaining the young prince's trust...
