The rugged wheels of Reid's car broomed through the rough county road on his way to find the Jervis and his gang lurking in the city. Not a single word was shared with each other. Alfie is patting on his forearm where the calming wound was stinging.

Reid can't directly look at Alfie in the eye and just focused straight on the road. He was too guilty about everything.

After a minute of silence and travel, Alfie decided to speak up, putting in the attitude of fixing the situation. "Come on, we can't stay silent like this."

Reid responded to that sudden talk, "How are we supposed to not?"

"I don't know, put on some music or something." Shrugging his shoulders and smirking his lips, Alfie suggested.

Reid's hand reached for the radio at their front. His wrist adjusting, and his index finger clicking the button to turn it on.

As the button clack down, a loud bass sound from it bangs all over the car and can be heard right outside their car, fading in and out fast from the county line.

The two sang their hearts out with the song "Fake ID" by the band Big and Rich. Their voices can't be heard but they sure are having fun singing along. Their hands are smacking and banging everywhere in the car, busting out some moves.

The music stops, the car slowed down as they' arrived at the good old city where they've been looking for this Joey guy.

The cold breeze takes the birds gliding in a vast area of property called C&B's Ranch. It was lively and packed with domesticated cattles and sheep.

A big and modernized style wooden house stands just outside the fences. Vermont's taxi dropped him off the driveway to the front of the house.

The taxi drove off the property leaving Vermont alone, standing on his feet. He crept closer while elevating himself on the stairs to the doorway of the house that seemed to be in the location Brandy gave him.

Before knocking or anything, he carefully looked inside through the window to see if someone's inside, not to mention Brandy and Mary.

A static sound from a camera scared the heck out him as a voice started talking.

"Get in, we're waiting."

Vermont sighed as it was nothing serious deadly. "Brandy?" He asked, staring straight at the camera.

Brandy can see him inside from a digital screen that casts the record of the camera outside.

"Quit being a jackass, just get in. Downstairs, down the hallway, third door." Brandy said with his arms crossed. He turned around and there's Mary, tied up in a chair with a tape on her mouth. Her body was marked with bruises.

"That's the 'Vermont' you guys were talking about? Kinda low." Brandy bragged.

With cautious steps, Vermont headed to the room he was instructed to. As he reached the door, he opened it at a drop of a hat and saw Mary. He couldn't believe his eyes seeing her beat up and tied. He looked around and saw no one so he ran quickly towards her and talked to her.

"Mary! Mary! What happened?" In a low voice, a heavy breathing lungs, and a shaken body, he took the tape away from Mary's mouth and tried to untie her from the grip of the ropes on her hands. Not until a click of a gun was heard just right behind his head.

"Brandy. I knew you were hideous." Vermont was so mad that his voice could be heard as a low growl.

"Hideous from what?" Brandy put the gun on his back and laughed. Vermont stood up and turned around. "What?" Out of cluelessness, he asked.

"You thought this was all true? You really are cautious, eh?" Brandy's laughing couldn't kept his balanced and he just layed down and continue to laugh.

"Hey, Vermont." Mary called.

"Darn it, Mary! You think this is funny?" Vermont wiped the bruises and realized it was just paint. "Oh, gosh..." He added.

"I just thought I could pull up a prank, you know. It's been a while." Mary smiled looking at Vermont's reaction from the fact that it was all just an act.

"Dang right it's funny! You should see the look on your face! Aw..." Brandy wiped his tears of joy and took a can of beer from the fridge.

He tossed it at Vermont as a share and a token of apology from the prank.

"How did you even know Mary in the first place? Mary, how'd you this guy?" Vermont's curiosity made him ask questions.

"We'll talk later. Mary, tidy yourself up in the bathroom first." Brandy suggested.

They untied Mary and she tidied herself up in the bathroom.

Minutes later, Mary came out fresh and clean, and had a seat with the twosome.

"Who are you, really? How did you now Mary?" Vermont interrogated first.

"The name's Brandy Jobs, and I'm friends with Cole. I hope that explains the question of how I know you." Brandy explains.

"Wait, Cole? You know him?" Mary asked.

"Yeah. I know him from an online game. We played together in the past. And just a year ago, we decided to meet up. That's all." replied Brandy.

"A game? How come he didn't told us this?"

"Well, he told me you guys aren't even on the same page when it comes to games and stuff."

"Well, fair enough. So, he told you about us, right?"

"Yeah."

"Why did you take us, by the way?" Mary asked.

"Good question. It was about a few weeks ago, 19th of April, the day before the accident, when he called me and said he wanted to go to the bar, you know, drink some liquor.

After a few shot, I asked him if he's okay, but he was quickly drunk and was just squabbling over himself.

What he said was still over my head. He said he needed help.

("Help, like what?" Vermont asked in the middle of Brandy's explanation.)

He told me to find you two, and protect you.
He told me about you, he knew that you will come. So he told me to get Mary first and then you." Brandy explained.

"Protect me? From who? I am dying to know about all this. This is just so messed up! Who am I being protected from?"

"From his father."

Vermont's heart became stone cold as he heard these three words from Brandy. All that's left of him was questions of Why's.

As his young mind was too stunned to understand about everything that has been linked to a chain, to a bigger anchor.
