A Dream of Us

"Ray what do you see when you think about the future?" I asked him as we were lying on the bed together with his head on my shoulder as he snuggled in my chest. I was running my fingers through his hair and along his neck.
He always liked it when I did that.

"What future?" He asked without moving.
"Your future." I said.
"What about my future?" He asked again.
"Do you see me in it?" I asked and his body tensed in my arms.

He looked at me with worried expression,
"Baby you Are my future. If you are not in my future I don't even wanna live it."
I smiled at him.
"What future do you want for us?" I asked.

"I don't know I never thought about it. Whatever it may be, I just want you to be there." He said putting his head in the previous position.

I sighed,
"Are you gonna keep working for them always?"

His body tensed and he moved away from me and I instantly felt the loss of warmth from his embrace.
"What are getting at, Amy? I thought you were ok with what I do."
He asked.

"I am. As long as it's just me." I said hoping he would get what I'm trying to say.
"What do you mean? Who else is gonna be there?" He asked looking clueless.

"Never mind. I'm sorry I even brought it up." I said turning the other way.

A tear slipped from my eyes as I closed my eyes and let sleep overtake my body.

It was the next morning. I was drinking my coffee as I looked outside in my backyard. Winter was overtaking the garden as all of my plants and flowers had died down. Soon a thick layer of snow will burry them.

I felt his big arm engulf me from behind as he kissed me on the cheek.
"Good morning, beautiful."

"Good morning." I said smiling.

"I had the most amazing dream last night."
"Yeah? What did you see?" I asked.

"I was thinking long what you said last night and I don't know when I fell asleep. And then I saw it. I saw us." He paused as I turned around to face him.

"I know what I want for our future now." He said looking at me.
"What's that?"
"One day, I'm gonna marry you Amelia. You will be the mother of our children. We will have a house by the lake. And there will be no Diamond Crown." He said placing his forehead on mine.

"Are you serious?" I asked, still in disbelief.
"I am, Amy. I just need to finish something that I have started. And then everything will be alright. We can go anywhere you want. We can start our life, our family, however you want, baby."

I smiled at him and hugged him tightly. The confident way he said it all, I knew he wanted to make it happen with all his heart.

We were interrupted when his phone buzzed in his pocket, "I'm sorry. I need to take this."
He said and gave me a quick peck on the lips and went inside to take it.
And I went in the kitchen to prepare some breakfast.

I got the call back from Nolan this morning. It took him longer than I thought to dig all the data on Ruth and Matthew Cane. He asked me to come to the safe house for discussing his findings on Ruth Anderson and Caine.
