I waited patiently but extremely unnerved for Amber to respond. I stood by the bedroom window and vaped filling the room with clouds of scented smoke. While I waited I suddenly remembered that I had bought gifts for my parents and sister a while back. I went to the storage closet and took out the gifts that were still in the bag from the store I purchased it from. I was supposed to visit them a few months ago but I had to cancel for a very important meeting at work.

How typical of me to do, right?

I got my mom a set of scented candles and perfume. For my dad, I got him a navy blue tie and cologne; and for Em, I got her a cute unicorn plush toy.

I know they're going to love it.

I put them in a big gift bag that I had lying around.

A half hour went by and still no reply from Amber. I was really becoming quite agitated. I sat down on the bed again and scrolled away on Instagram just to kill time and to get my mind off waiting for Amber's response; and finally do I get a message from her.

My hopes were high.

I went into WhatsApp and opened her chat.

"So I guess I won't be making it tomorrow. I'm sorry."

"Aww, that's such a pity. I was really looking forward

to having you come along with me."

She just sent me a sad emoji.

"Well, goodnight Amber. Sweet dreams"

"You too, Blake"

I sighed. I really wanted her to join me in Washington, but I guess it was also such short notice too. I got into bed and fell asleep. I had a long day ahead on me.

My alarm went off at 6:30am. For the first time in weeks I woke up feeling at ease. From the breakup with Madison, to working late it all put a strain on me. I really think I was working too much these days. This trip was what I needed; a nice long drive. I was a little devastated that Amber couldn't join me. I really wanted to show her around where I grew up and I wanted to introduce her to my parents.

Yeah, I know a lot of people will think it's too soon but she's just a friend.

I got out of bed going straight to the kitchen and turned on the kettle. I got my mug from the cupboard and added some medium roast Café Altura with two sugars. I then went back to my room while I waited for the kettle to boil and got my phone from the nightstand. I checked my messages.

Nothing.

I went back to the kitchen and poured the boiling water into my mug. The smell of coffee filled the kitchen. I sat in the lounge and turned on the television. I went to Netflix and just played anything for the time being for background noise. I took a sip of coffee. As I sat down, my phone kept chiming multiple times.

Strange.

I went into WhatsApp to check my messages. It was Amber. I instantly smiled when I was her name.

"Morning, early bird. Are you all packed and ready

for our long drive to Washington?"

" Can't wait to see you soon."

I was confused.

Does this means she as was joining me?

I messaged back.

"Morning Amber. Does this mean that you're coming with

I thought that you couldn't make it."
