2 years later present

"Mommy!" They chant over and over again as they jump on top of me.

"Get off of me," I slur, still halfway in my dream.

"Mommy," my daughter pats my cheek. "We're hungry Mommy."

I groan, glancing at the time on my phone. 7 fucking a.m. "Well, maybe if you two would sleep, you wouldn't be hungry." I mumble bitterly, getting up to brush my teeth.

Such is the life of a mother of twins. Twins who insist on being early risers.

Midnight is my bubbly and bold little girl, while Caliban is my quiet and shy little boy.

I had them both in a hospital in Maine during August while on the run from their father and decided that maybe fate had decided that Adilyn and I should stay here.

Midnight and Caliban have been constant reminders of Ruslan. Our daughter especially. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to name her after her late older half-sister, but I did because I'm still in love with him.

Two years later and I still cum on my fingers to him.

The betrayal hurts so bad, but I wish I could get an explanation for what he said. I was too brash. I realized this when I heard that Maxwell had died not even an hour after I left.

But Ruslan...hasn't–or he's still trying to find me and when he does he'll probably kill me, which is why I'm living in the most irrelevant state ever as a history teacher. Adilyn dyed some of her hair red and got tattoos, she's a small influencer and she's actually dating someone. A man called Jack.

Life here hasn't been so bad.

Adilyn and I went to Nigeria at first, then used another ticket we bought on a flight to Maine where we met Temi and her daughter Reign. Temi is a badass woman, who snuck into the airport and managed to get on a plane to Maine with a child.

She told us she married an old man to protect her family when she was twelve, and she had her daughter two years later when she was fourteen. Temi had to outsmart everyone in her life by pretending to be infertile while on birth control and escaping ten years later.

She's the strongest woman I know, and her daughter, who's thirteen now, is the kindest and most patient with the twins–the patience that I need.

I sigh tiredly, following my children into the kitchen to warm up some dino chicken nuggets for them. At two years old, they're at the age where they throw temper tantrums at any given thing, and I'm trying to be a gentle parent.

It's mostly Midnight since she's the louder twin, she screams and cries. Caliban just decides to sit down and put his head on the ground...no matter where we are.

"Here you go, my sweet little babies." I smile, kissing their cheeks. Midnight has her father's beautiful green eyes and curly black hair, while Caliban's eyes are a bright hazel which looks green under the sunlight. His hair was a curly brown mess on his head.

Midnight smiles happily. "Thank you!"

I'm sure Caliban said thank you as well, most of the time I can barely hear him. He smiles as well before dipping his nuggets in ketchup.
