Evelyn and Ash rushed through the streets of Viridian City, trying to get to the Pokémon Center as quickly as possible. Luckily for them, the streets weren't too busy at this hour.
"We should soon arrive at the Pokémon Center." Evelyn said.
"Hold on, Pikachu, we're almost there..." Ash reassured his Pokémon, who sadly couldn't responded.
"Stop right there you two!"
A voice startled them as they felt something grabbing onto the back of their jacket or hoodie in Evelyn's case. They turned to see the person who had grabbed them, who turned out to be a police officer.
"Oh... Hello, Officer Jenny, is there any-"
"Where do you think you two are going with that Pokémon?" Officer Jenny asked.
"It's my Pokémon and he's hurt! We gotta get it to the Pokémon Center right away!" Ash said, Officer Jenny's face softened as she noticed the injured Pikachu.
"Oh, I'm sorry! I thought you two were stealing that Pikachu. Now, just show me your IDs, and you may go."
"ID? Ugh... We don't have any. You see-" Ash said, but was interrupted by Evelyn.
"Of course, we do! Didn't Professor Oak told you that our Pokédex can act as an ID?" Evelyn asked, Ash was surprised at this before shaking his head negatively, which made Evelyn frown and wonder why Professor Oak hadn't told him. The mention of Professor Oak and the Pokédex caught Officer Jenny's attention...
"Ah ha! A Pokédex! Now that makes things easier." Officer Jenny smiled, "Hand over your Pokédex so I can verify your identity."
Evelyn quickly reached into her bag and pulled out her Pokédex, handing it to Officer Jenny. The officer took the Pokédex and pressed a few buttons, until it spoke.
"I'm Dexter. A Pokédex programmed by Professor Oak for Pokémon Trainer Evelyn White of the town of Pallet. My function is to provide Evelyn with information and advice regarding Pokémon and their training. If lost or stolen, I cannot be replaced."
Ash then took his and handed it to the officer, and proceeded to do what she had done with Evelyn's Pokédex, smiling once their identities had been verified.
"Well, everything is in order, you may go." Officer Jenny said, as a thoughtful look appeared on her face. "You know, you two are the third and fourth person I've seen today from Pallet Town."
"Third and fourth... That means Gary has already been here." Ash muttered, annoyed.
"Ash! Focus, we need to get Pikachu to the Pokémon Center immediately." Evelyn said.
"Don't worry, I'll get the two of you there in no time at all." Officer Jenny assured them, much to their confusion.
They got their answer once she took them into the garage, where stood a motorcycle, with a sidecar on the right. They took their seats, Evelyn having to sit on Ash's lap as the sidecar was made for one, which made them both blush.
"Alright, kids. Sit back, hold on, and don't yell." Officer Jenny said. With that, the garage door then opened and she quickly exited the garage, causing them to yelp at the sudden movement.
They were glad that Officer Jenny had offered them a lift, as it would get them to their destination much more quickly than if they'd gone on foot. But what they didn't know was that they had left behind a girl who had just arrived and was holding a charred bicycle...
The sun was slowly setting as they approached the Pokémon Center. The breeze brushed Evelyn's face as she held Pikachu gently against her, with Ash clinging to her waist.
