The tranquil moment between Red and Snow was abruptly shattered by the sound of hurried footsteps crashing through the underbrush. Both women immediately tensed, their instincts kicking in as they prepared for another confrontation. A moment later, Hansel and Gretel burst into the clearing, breathless and wide-eyed with urgency.
"Red! Snow!" Hansel exclaimed, his voice laced with panic. "You need to come with us. There's been a sighting of a new monster—something unlike anything we've faced before!"
Gretel, her braided hair swinging wildly as she caught her breath, added, "It's massive! The villagers are terrified. They say it’s been attacking at night, leaving destruction in its wake."
Red exchanged a glance with Snow, her heart racing. "What do you mean 'unlike anything we've faced'? Can you be more specific?"
Hansel stepped closer, his green eyes serious. "It's called the Wraith Beast. It's said to be a shadowy creature that can manipulate darkness itself, turning it into a weapon. It leaves no trace of its victims, just whispers in the wind."
Snow's expression darkened. "Whispers? That doesn't sound good. We need to act quickly. If it’s able to manipulate darkness, we can’t afford to underestimate it."
Gretel nodded vigorously. "The villagers are gathering at the old mill to discuss what to do. They’re scared, and we need to reassure them. But we also need to come up with a plan to confront this thing."
Red felt a surge of determination. "Then let's not waste any time. We’ll head to the mill and assess the situation. If this Wraith Beast is as dangerous as you say, we need to be prepared."
As they turned to leave, Hansel hesitated, glancing back at Red. "Are you sure you’re okay after the fight with the Shadowfang? You pushed yourself pretty hard."
Red waved a hand dismissively. "I’m fine. The real challenge is ahead of us. We can’t let fear dictate our actions."
With that, the group set off, moving swiftly through the forest, the shadows around them growing deeper as they approached the village. Each step felt heavy with the weight of what lay ahead, but Red’s resolve burned bright. As they neared the old mill, the sounds of hushed voices and anxious murmurs reached their ears. The villagers had gathered, their faces pale and drawn. Red could feel the tension in the air, thick and suffocating.
****As Red stepped into the clearing near the old mill, the murmurs of the gathered villagers fell silent. Their eyes, filled with fear and uncertainty, turned toward her. She could feel the weight of their expectations, the desperation in their gazes. This was a moment that demanded strength.
"Listen to me!" Red called out, her voice firm and steady. "I know you’re scared. I can see it in your faces. But we cannot let fear control us. The Wraith Beast may be a threat, but together, we are stronger."
The villagers exchanged uneasy glances, their anxiety palpable. Red took a deep breath, her heart pounding, but she pressed on. "We’ve faced darkness before. Each of us has a role to play, and if we stand united, we can confront this creature. We are not alone in this fight."
A murmur of agreement rippled through the crowd, but doubt lingered in the air. An older man stepped forward, his face lined with worry. "And what if it comes for us tonight? What can we do against something that can manipulate shadows?"
Red stepped closer, her eyes locking onto his. "We prepare. We set up defenses, gather supplies, and work together. We’ll create a plan that takes advantage of the light. The Wraith Beast thrives in darkness, but we can use our strengths to outsmart it."
Gretel chimed in, her voice rising with enthusiasm. "We can use torches and lanterns! Light will be our ally! If we can keep the area bright, we can force it to show itself."
Hansel nodded, his analytical mind already racing with ideas. "And we can set up a perimeter. We’ll need to watch each entrance to the mill, and if it attacks, we’ll be ready."
Red felt the energy in the crowd shift, a spark of hope igniting in their eyes. "Exactly! We’ll work together to protect our home. We’ve faced monsters before, and we’ve come out stronger. This time will be no different."
A woman from the back of the crowd stepped forward, her voice trembling but filled with determination. "What do you need from us, Red? We’ll do whatever it takes."
Red smiled, her heart swelling with pride. "We need your courage. Gather any torches, lanterns, or light sources you can find. We’ll need to work quickly. The sooner we prepare, the better chance we have."
As the villagers began to mobilize, a renewed sense of purpose filled the air. Red felt the wolf spirit within her stir, urging her onward. This was their moment to fight back against the darkness that threatened to consume them.
As the villagers rushed to gather supplies and prepare for the impending confrontation, Gretel felt a pull to investigate the area surrounding the old mill. Her instincts as a hunter kicked in, and she moved with a quiet determination, her enchanted pistols ready at her side. She wandered a little further into the brush, where the moonlight struggled to penetrate the thick canopy of trees. It was there, just beyond the scattered debris of the mill's long-abandoned yard, that she stumbled upon something peculiar.

Kneeling down, Gretel brushed aside the leaves and dirt, revealing strange markings etched into the ground. They were intricate symbols, swirling patterns that seemed to pulse with a faint, dark energy. Her heart raced as she traced her fingers over the grooves, feeling a chill run down her spine.
"Red! Snow!" she called out, her voice urgent. "You need to see this!"
Red and Snow, who were conferring with a few villagers nearby, rushed over to her side. Red knelt beside Gretel, her amber eyes narrowing as she studied the markings. "What are these?"
Snow leaned closer, her red eyes glinting with interest. "These symbols... they look like they’re tied to dark magic. Perhaps a way for the Wraith Beast to channel its power."
Gretel nodded, her brow furrowed in concentration. "If that’s the case, we need to destroy them. This could be how it’s been manipulating shadows and instilling fear in the villagers."
Red's expression hardened with resolve. "Then we’ll mark this area as a priority. We can’t let it use this place to its advantage. We need to find a way to disrupt whatever dark magic is at play here."
Snow frowned, her mind racing. "But how do we destroy something like this? We need to be careful not to trigger any traps."
Gretel stood, her determination shining through. "I can set up some traps of my own. If we can lure the Wraith Beast here, we can use these markings against it."
Red stood up, her eyes gleaming with a fierce light. "That’s a great idea, Gretel. We can use the markings to our advantage, but we need to act quickly before it senses we’re onto it."
As they formulated their plan, the air around them grew heavy with anticipation. The villagers were counting on them, and they would need every ounce of courage and skill to confront the Wraith Beast. The markings whispered secrets of darkness, but Red felt a flicker of hope. They had the strength of their bonds and the power of light to guide them.
