Author's POV

The night had finally settled over the Shekhawat mansion. The guests had left after dinner, the faint clinking of plates and the aroma of incense still lingering in the air. Inside the grand living room, the family gathered together, the elders sunk deep into armchairs and couches, their conversation circling around politics, business, and the state of the world.

Kaira sat quietly among them, listening more than speaking, her hands folded in her lap, her gaze moving from one speaker to another. The atmosphere was homely, safe—so different from the icy silence of the Singh mansion. She found herself almost smiling.

"Kaira di!" Divya's impatient voice broke the serious tone of the room.

Kaira turned to see the youngest Shekhawat standing, arms crossed dramatically. "Chalo yaar yaha se... yaha sirf bado logon ki baatein chalengi."

Behind her, Aarav stretched lazily and got up too, smirking. "She's right, di."

"Haan, chalo na," Vivaan echoed, already pushing his hands in his pockets as if bored to death.

Kaira's eyes flickered toward the elders, hesitant. But when Shreya aunty gave a small nod and smile, she rose and followed the trio out.

They ended up in Divya's room—a vibrant space filled with fairy lights, soft cushions, and stacks of books on the side table. Kaira perched on the edge of the bed, adjusting her saree carefully, while Aarav and Vivaan flopped on the couch like they owned the place.

"Kaira di..." Vivaan leaned forward, eyes mischievous.

"Hmm?"

"Aapko koi pasand hai kya?"

Aarav slapped his forehead instantly and shot him a glare that promised violence later. "Pagal hai kya tu?"

Kaira froze, eyes narrowing at Vivaan as if she could set him on fire with just one look. "Seriously? Aaj sabko bas ek hi sawaal kyun yaad aa raha hai?" Her tone was sharp, but the way she fiddled with her bangles gave her away.

Both boys exchanged sheepish grins and broke into nervous laughter.

Before Kaira could scold them further, Divya's voice rang from the corner. "DI!"

All three turned to see her half-buried in her drawer, tugging something out with great effort. She emerged triumphantly, clutching a book like a prized treasure, and rushed to sit beside Kaira. Aarav and Vivaan groaned in unison.
