For this story to make sense, here are some changes to canon:
•after finding the direwolf pups, they each had their own methods of training them. For example, Sansa taught Lady to sit, to lay down and to give her a handshake.
Rickon, on the other hand taught Shaggydog to steal snacks from the kitchen, entertaining the boy.Ned Stark advised his eldest son, Robb, to make his wolf do something practical, something that will be useful in battle- something that can save his life someday.
So for the next few weeks, Robb was busy trying out new tricks with Grey Wind. He learned to climb and open doors (he once helped himself into the chickens' coop. That did not please Ned)Once upon a time Bran showed his older brothers that his wolf puppy can do flips on command.
-good job, but i bet he can't do what Grey Wind can! -Jon laughed. Robb sent him a look that said "really, Snow?", to which Jon replied with a shrug "what did you expect, Stark?"
Bran didn't notice any of their interactions, he was too busy trying to stay upright with Summer jumping all over him, trying to lick his face.-really? What did you tea- Bran asked, getting distracted when Summer took the opportunity and licked the boys teeth when he started talking.-eww, you can't just do that to peo-Summer licked his mouth again. Grey Wind looked like he was feeling second hand embarassment and Ghost, like he would have liked to join in with his brother if he was a little less shy.-people!
Robb laughed pulling Bran off the ground, while Jon tried to hold Summer back from jumping into Robb's arms too.
Which was harder than it seems; with a jelous Ghost growling at the other wolf.Bran chuckled when Ghost dug his face between Summer and his owner, freeing the latter in the process. Jon started baby talking to his direwolf, ignoring his brothers' laughter.
Summer jumped after his boy, using all his hunting instincts to...
Catch his shoelaces.
Robb almost dropped the younger Stark, carefully balancing with the sudden weight, who was hanging by his mouth and swinging slightly. The pups feet didn't quite reach the ground. Not like he wanted to; Summer always wondered what his boy's shoes tasted like (leather. It tasted like leather. And string, but the strings were usually tucked away into the shoe, and Summer only caught the double tied knot because it fell loose while playing).
-show me what your wolf does!-Bran asked, giving puppy eyes to his older brother. -pleasee
Robb sighed and gently lowered his brother to the ground. He did not feel ready to present the trick to an audience.
-show him, Robb!- Jon said too, and now Robb regretted showing him the trick yesterday.-okay, fine..-he said nervously.-come on, we'll need a bow for this one.
Bran had no idea what that was supposed to mean, but Jon reassured him it was going to be fine.
-Grey Wind! Sit!-Robb commanded. Already like a leader, even at 15.
-that's not bad, but even Shaggydog can do that.. sometimes- it confused Bran.
Even Shaggydog could sit down, when he was asked to and felt like obeying (Rickon is only 6, his wolf feels more like a brother to him than a pet. Shaggydog has his own opinions and sometimes the wolf conctrols the boy more than the boy does the wolf.)
What was so special about sitting? And then he found out.
-ready? Grey Wind, play dead!- Robb announced the task, waiting for the blurry feeling inside his chest to signal his direwolf's willingness to do so. Then, he picked up a crossbow and aimed.
Jon supressed his smile at Bran watching as the arrow found it's way into the place between the bricks on the wall, burying itself deep into the building.
