The wind was playing with my hair as I walked on the side of the road, enjoying the calm and quiet evening. Looking out towards the beach, I watched the setting sun cast its reflection upon the waves. This evening stroll was all I had thought about earlier today. The stress from work had been so tough lately that I had been desperately trying to get some time off.
I had brought a little backpack with me containing a towel and some clean underwear, with the intention of taking a little swim along the shoreline.
After a little while of walking and scouting for the perfect place to put down my belongings, I settled down on the beach, the sun shining directly in front of me. I felt its warm rays slowly drift away the remaining of the stress I had felt earlier today.
Even though I was excited to feel the cold water on my skin, I reminded myself that I had all evening to swim. Slowly, I began taking off my clothes, one piece after the other. The flowing skirt I had been wearing, fell to the ground, revealing the lower part of my bathing suit. After I had changed into only the blue piece of clothing, I put away my clothes into my backpack and hid it in a bush. I was planning on swimming for quite some time, so I didn't want to risk anyone stealing it, even though, when I looked around for anyone, the only thing I could see was kilometres of sand and sea.
With a content sigh, I padded towards the waves and felt my feet lightly digging into the gradually damper sand. It wasn't really cold, since the sun had warmed it the whole day. As I stood in the wet sand, small waves rushed over my feet, and I felt a little shock wash over me. The water was so refreshing, and so I walked deeper into the water. At a point I stood with water surrounding me, reaching my lower thighs. The waves had become slightly bigger.
Excitement rushed through me as I no longer could hold in my eagerness. With a broad grin on my face, I ran further away from the shore. As it became harder to move fast, and the waves reached my hips, I let myself fall forward and splash under the water. The ocean truly was my sanctuary.
My fall caused a soft splash, and as my head went underneath the surface, I let myself relax, keeping my body still and all my muscles relaxed. I felt slight tingles as my hair flowed around me, sweeping over my face and shoulders.
As I couldn't hold my breath anymore, I used my arms to get my head above the waves. I was met with warm rays of sunshine caress my wet face. I gazed out towards the endless sea, looking for and boats or ships in the horizon. I saw none. The sea was completely empty of anybody, or so I thought, unknowing that a pair of mysterious eyes were watching me from a long distance, hiding among the dark blue waves.
The sun was nowhere to be seen; the only remaining proof it was there being the slightly lighter sky low above the horizon. I was currently swimming along the shoreline, hundreds of meters away from where i'd put my backpack and clothes. I had seen no jellyfishes on my little adventure, though I was still cautious not to swim into one. Its stinging would do me no good. The sea was dark, and as I swam, the beach to my left became cliffs. Taller and taller above the water they stood, with littoral caves and openings caused by thousands, or even millions of years of waves crashing against them. They were dark and mysterious, and I couldn't help wondering what was hidden in there.
The waves became bigger, and some that crashed with the big rock walls made loud noises, as if they were crying out in despair. I found myself nearing the cliffs, even though I knew they were dangerous. The streams were tougher, and it got harder to control my movements. Panic surged through me as I tried to get away from the cliff area, but no matter how hard I tried, the waves only became bigger and bigger. I was constantly getting salt water in both my mouth and nose, and a suffocating feeling threatened to break me.
