Setting: A couple of weeks later, Rosa’s apartment in Brooklyn. The evening light casts a warm glow over the room as Rosa and Emma prepare to host a small dinner for Emma’s sister, Lily.

---

Rosa was in the kitchen, chopping vegetables, while Emma set the table in the dining area. They had decided to host Lily for dinner, a casual get-together to introduce Rosa to Emma’s family. Emma had spoken often of her sister, and Rosa was curious to meet the person who had been such a significant part of Emma’s life.

“I’m nervous,” Rosa admitted, glancing over at Emma as she arranged the cutlery.

Emma smiled, coming over to stand beside Rosa. “Lily’s going to love you. Trust me.”

Rosa nodded, appreciating Emma’s reassurance. She was still getting used to the idea of meeting family—something she hadn’t done often in her past relationships. The thought was both exciting and nerve-wracking.

When the doorbell rang, Emma gave Rosa’s hand a quick squeeze before heading to answer it. Rosa took a deep breath, trying to quell her nerves.

Emma returned with Lily, a cheerful woman with a warm smile and a friendly demeanor. She had the same hazel eyes as Emma and an energy that immediately filled the room.

“Rosa, this is my sister, Lily,” Emma introduced.

“Nice to meet you,” Rosa said, extending her hand.

Lily shook her hand enthusiastically. “It’s great to finally meet you! Emma’s told me so much about you.”

They settled into an easy conversation as Rosa finished preparing dinner. Lily’s openness and warmth quickly put Rosa at ease, and she found herself enjoying the evening more than she had anticipated. They talked about everything from Emma’s childhood antics to Lily’s job as a teacher, sharing stories and laughter over the meal.

As they ate, Rosa felt a sense of belonging, a feeling that had been rare in her life. Emma’s family was different from her own—accepting and supportive, without the weight of judgment or expectation.

After dinner, they moved to the living room, where Rosa and Lily continued their conversation while Emma made coffee.

“I’m really glad Emma has you,” Lily said, her tone earnest. “She’s been so happy lately, and it’s clear you’re a big part of that.”

Rosa felt a warmth spread through her at Lily’s words. “I feel the same way about her. She’s been… amazing.”

Lily nodded, her expression thoughtful. “I can see that. And for what it’s worth, I think you’re great too.”

They chatted late into the night, the conversation flowing easily. Rosa appreciated how seamlessly Lily accepted her into their family dynamic, making her feel like part of something meaningful.
