Chapter 2
Caro's point of view
It happend when I was ten. He was on the way to the hospital for his monthly check, when he lost control over his body. His heart just didn't work anymore. The car went off the road, and it fell in the ditch next to the road.
On that day, I was with my mother shopping in the mall. We were happily chatting. I was just trying on some jeans, when my mother got that call. That horrible call.
'You could try those jeans.' The shop assistant handed me a pair of light jeans. I liked them, so I tried them on. When I had put them on, I walked outside the changing room, and I saw that my mother was calling. 'They fit very well!' The shop assistant smiled. 'I think you'll have to wait untill your mother is finished.' 'Yeah.' I mumbled and I walked towards my mother.
I could hear her voice now. She sounded concerned. I guessed it was something of her work, she's always busy.
'Dear...' My mother turned around with a pale face. I am shocked, she looks very afraid. 'What's up mom?' I am very concerned now. I have never seen my always happy and nice mother this horrified before. It looks like she can't talk.
'Mum, what happened?'
I want to shout it out, but my mother seems so fragile and small.
'Andrew...' My mother faces me. She is completely in shock.
'Dad'?
'That was the hospital, Caro.'
Ah, finally my mother talks again.
'They said... your father... he, he just came in.'
'But mum, that is normal. He was on his way to the hospital.'
Mother shakes her head and starts to cry softly.
Then it hit me. 'Is he... did he...' I couldn't get it out of my mouth. It was too horrible to even think of, I couldn't pronounce it.
My mother nodded briefly, with tears in her eyes.
I felt numb. This is not true, this did not happen, this could not happen and this would never happen. I refused to believe it. I turned around and sat down. The shop assistant must have felt unbelievably awkward and out of place.
I could feel my whole world breaking down. I felt broken. So broken. I just don't have another word for it. I was scared and horrified. I couldn't believe it. My father, who promised to me to be always there for me. It could not be true.
His heart stopped because of a heart attack. Heart attacks are in our family. My great-grandmother died of one when she was 45. My grandfather died when he was 28, and my father when he was 46. They were all the eldest of their brothers and sisters, and I am too.
Here is a chapter again! I like writing (:
