You always had a sneaking suspicion that you were being watched, feeling a lingering anxiety whenever you were in the dark. Never in the light, though. You had always thought it was just the common fear of the dark, but for some reason, it felt like more than that.

"Y/N!" Your mother called, her voice strained. You scrambled to her aid, wide-eyed. She seemed furious; if you were in a cartoon, flames would be bursting from her ears.

"...Uh, y-yeah?" you stammered, your tongue fumbling over the words. Anxiety built up as you constantly looked behind you while she rambled on, lecturing you. Eventually, you felt a fist strike your temple, pain radiating through your head like electricity.

"Ow!" you yelled, holding your face in your hands. Crimson blood dripped from your forehead.

"...Listen when I'm talking to you, Y/N," she demanded. A sob hitched in your throat, and your eyes locked onto hers. She continued her rant, slapping you a few times as she did so.

"You're so fucking useless. Why don't you find something to do before I kick you out for good?" At those words, you froze, completely numb.

"W-What?" your voice was weak, strained.

"You heard me. Now SHAPE UP and keep your act together before you're out of this house. Go clean the entire house, mow the lawn, and fetch me a glass of water. Got it?" She slapped you across the face again before storming off.

You managed to hold back your sobs until you entered your room, the door flying open and then slamming shut behind you. A hitched sob teased your uvula as you sniffled. Yet, you felt something behind you; the lights were shut off... It must've been nothing, as you brushed it off immediately.

You looked behind you, and nothing was there, yet the anxiety remained. You heaved yourself through the window, scampering off, trekking through the fields.

TIMESKIP

Eventually, you found yourself stranded in a forest. Well, at least you wouldn't have to deal with your mother anymore... right? Despite telling yourself this, tears streamed down your cheeks, threatening to spill further. The anxiety built up, and you looked behind you. Nothing was there, again.

"I'm going insane..." you mumbled, pondering this further until you brushed it off. It was probably nothing; it wasn't like monsters were real anyway.

Eventually, something scooped you up, holding you limply in its arms. What... You struggled, a whimper hitching in your throat.

"What the fuck?" you shouted, until it shifted you, fastening its grip.

"It seems the dove has strayed too far from home, hm?" You couldn't see its face because of your position, but its voice was low, raspy, gravelly—like the monster in a horror movie.

A thought flashed in your mind, and your brows shot up. "Were you that thing in the dark, that... feeling?"

The monster chuckled slowly, ominously. To make it even more unsettling, you saw a glint of red flash upon the brambles in the distance. "What was... that?" you muttered weakly. The monster shifted you in its hold, now carrying you bridal-style.

It seemed robotic, the soft whir of gears following each movement. Yet, its hold was comforting, warmth radiating from its body. Its eyes were a shade of crimson, glowing dimly.

It had a toothy grin plastered on its face, eyes squinted. "You're so pathetic, y'know?" it rumbled lowly, and you couldn't help but feel a twinge of offense at its words.

"I'm not!" you protested, but it hushed you. "Go to sleep, you're tired."

Upon hearing its words, a look of realization stretched across your face. Your eyes were droopy, heavy bags under them, and your body felt numb with exhaustion. It was right.

Normally, you would worry about sleeping in a monster's presence, especially while it was carrying you, but you were too tired to care. You began to drift into slumber, cradled in its claws. Yet, you mustered up some words, "What's your name?"

It hushed you, "I'm MoonDrop." You remembered that name from the legends. It resembled the pictures, often known as the 'creature of the night.' It put kids to bed, and yet it put adults to bed... forever.

"Why am I not dead?" you asked, voice weak.

MoonDrop shifted, "Hm?" It hummed curiously.

"Why haven't you killed me?" you asked again, fumbling over your speech but recollecting yourself.

"Mmh..." it grumbled lowly, pressing you tighter to its chest. "Sleep."

Despite wanting to pry answers from it, you could feel the gentle tug of sleep calling to you, and you gave in. You fell into a tranquil slumber within the arms of a monster.

You're absolutely fucked...
