"You know what I love about this place?" Amiamon drawled, lounging against the stone archway that led to the candy store. His tail swished idly behind him, the tip brushing against the cobblestone street.
Y/N, a young exorcist with a penchant for sweets, looked up from her lollipop, her eyes curious. "What's that?"
"The candy," Amiamon said, his voice a low rumble that seemed to echo off the ancient walls. "It's the one thing that can still surprise me here." His gaze drifted over to her, and his expression grew thoughtful. "And the company isn't so bad either."
Y/N blushed, her grip tightening on the stick of her lollipop. Despite his fearsome reputation, the demon had a way of making her feel both safe and unnerved all at once. They had struck an unlikely friendship, bonded over their mutual love for sugary treats and their shared outsider status in a world that feared what they were.
"What's your favorite?" she asked, trying to keep the conversation light.
Amiamon's eyes lit up with mischief. "Oh, I'm quite the connoisseur. But if I had to choose, it'd be those little chocolate-covered strawberries they hide in the back." He leaned in closer, his breath warm against her cheek. "They're like a taste of sin wrapped in sweetness."
Her heart skipped a beat. "I've never had one," she admitted shyly.
"Allow me to introduce you." He strode into the store. The bell above the door jingled merrily as he approached the counter, his eyes scanning the shelves. The shopkeeper, an elderly woman with a knowing smile, nodded in his direction.
"Amiamon," she greeted, her voice warm. "Back for more, I see."
"I see you've got a fresh batch of those heavenly berries."
The shopkeeper winked. "Just for you and your charming friend." She reached into the back and produced a small box. "On the house, today."
Y/N's eyes widened as Amiamon took the box with a flourish, presenting it to her. "A gift from the Demon King of Earth, himself."
"Don't tease me," she chided, but her voice held a playful note.
"Come, we will go to the forest. I know a place where we can enjoy these in peace." Y/N couldn't help but agree, despite the occasional misgiving that whispered in the back of her mind.
The walk to the forest was filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers and the distant sound of children playing. Amiamon was silent, his eyes taking in every detail of the human world that surrounded them. It was as if he was seeing it all for the first time, and she couldn't help but feel a touch of envy at his ability to find wonder in the mundane.
When they arrived at the clearing, the sun had dipped low in the sky, casting a warm, golden light across the grass. Amiamon sat down with a sigh, his legs stretching out in front of him. He opened the box of chocolate-covered strawberries and offered one to Y/N. She took it gingerly, the rich aroma making her mouth water.
As she took a bite, she watched him carefully. His expression was unreadable, but she could sense his eyes on her, studying her every move. The sweetness of the chocolate melded with the tartness of the strawberry, and she couldn't help but let out a small moan of pleasure. His eyes darkened slightly, and she felt a thrill of something she couldn't quite name.
They sat in companionable silence for a while, savoring the treats and the tranquility of the forest. The air was thick with the scent of pine and the faint hum of insects. The warmth of the sun washed over them, painting their skin in a soft, buttery light.
As the last of the chocolate stained her fingertips, Y/N looked up to find Amiamon watching her intently. His gaze was no longer playful; it was intense, almost hungry. She swallowed hard, her heart racing. "What's wrong?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
