"Ena, get up, we're opening the cafe in a few minutes."
"Coming..."
Ugh.. another morning where I have to help out at the cafe. Not that I particularly dislike it, I'd just... rather spend my time doing other stuff, I guess. Especially since most days at the cafe are kind of boring.
But I guess this is just what I was born into doing. I started helping out my parents when the opened up the cafe 3 years ago. I was 13 at the time.
Now I'm 16.
3 years of helping at the cafe, going strong.
I force myself to get out of bed, and walk to my vanity to brush my hair and get myself ready for the morning.
I grab a hair brush and check my hair in the vanity mirror.
"Wow... my hair is a disaster," I thought to myself. "I should really take care of my hair better sometimes, honestly..."
As I finish brushing my hair, I look at myself in the mirror.
"Man, so this is who I am right now, huh," I mumble to myself. "I'm not sure how to feel about what I do right now-"
"ENA! HURRY UP, SLOWPOKE! We'll end up opening late because of you!" An aggressive, annoying voice calls out.
Ugh...
My brother can really get on my nerves most of the time. Akito isn't usually present when it comes to helping out at the cafe, since he's always usually busy doing stuff with his friends, but when he's around, I can hardly stand it...
He's always speaking like he's got a bone to pick with me; blunt, critical, and annoying. We usually get into fights because of this.
You know, the usual sibling behaviour.
He's only ever like this with me and our parents, though he tries his best to keep up a nice guy act around them and others to avoid getting himself into trouble.
But I can't exactly hate him-after all he is family.
"I'm coming!!!" I yell back, annoyed at my younger brother for his usual blunt tone.
After a little bit, I change my clothes and head downstairs for breakfast.
"Good morning, Ena," my mom says to me. "I've prepared blueberry pancakes for everyone today. This will also be our newest item on our cafe's menu, so we all get to give this recipe a test before we hand it to customers."
I sit down on our small, wooden table within the cafe alongside my brother, as mom hands us breakfast. "Let me know if you think I should change or add anything."
I grab my fork and take a bite on the pancakes. They're soft and fluffy-and the slight sourness of the blueberries on top perfectly contrast the sweetness of the pancakes.
Typical tasty food prepared by mom.
"This is really good, mom," I commented.
But in reality I've gotten so used to the same kinds of cooking that I don't think I can really comment on what I think about the food.Whatever, Akito still seems to enjoy it, at least.
"Yeah... this is... so good..." Akito mumbled, mouth still full with pancakes.
