Chapter 5

"You – you can't be serious!" Her voice shook as she forced herself to look into the dark eyes, that had broken her heart a year ago. As rain lashed relentlessly on the glass pane window beside them.

"On the contrary, my sweet one.....I am very serious! I want you back in my bed! In fact, from last few months I have thought of little else, but having your petite hot figure pulsing beneath me while we make wild passionate love. On the bed. In the bathtub. Against the wall. In my office. On the dinning table and maybe even in the garden outside." His voice had turned deep and husky, his words sounding like some magical incantations, aimed to make her loose her mind as he enumerated in detail about the exact locations and the very specific things he wanted to do to her.

"Stop-stop it!" Anna stuttered as her eyelashes dropped low in embarrassment, while a red hot blush adorned her cheeks. This was yet another opposing difference between the two of them. Eros was a hot blooded Greek male, who liked sex and lots of it and have absolutely no inhibition or shame as he publicly brandished that fact by saying things like this.

While, she, who had been a virgin until her wedding night with Eros was painfully shy about these things. And could not fathom herself ever being so brazen as to tease him sexually like this.

And THAT had fed into her insecurities as well, during their short marriage. When he had left her alone in the empty palace for months on end, while he travelled the world. She had wondered over and over again through those long, painful nights – if her shyness in the bedroom had been the reason why her husband no longer had any interest in her sexually.

Had her inability to tease him in bed or the lack of flirtatious advances from her side had played a part of Eros's lack of interest in her? Was he no longer aroused by her?

But there had been no answers to give, at the time. Eventually though, Anna had realized that the reason of her husband's absence in their marital bed had been for one reason...and one reason alone – 'Grace Anderson!' The exotic six foot athletic brunette model, who had taken a permanent residence in Eros's bed – in his Athens city apartment. Where he had started to spend more and more time.

And even at the weekends when he did come home, at the country side manor. His behaviour was aloof, stressed and overall uninterested in anything related to his still new wife.

And she had to keep reminding herself of that dark time. When she had been humiliated, broken hearted and lonely....oh so, lonely as she had fled from Greece and back to the states, after having finally seen Eros and his mistress together, the proof of infidelity with her own two eyes.

But she had gotten over it. She had moved on from that devastating heart break, the pain and anger that had overpowered her life after she had left her husband and was now once again a self reliant and independent woman, who lived her life in her own terms.

There is no way in hell that she would return to that hell hole ever again! Not at any cost!

"I told you – I will pay you back for the rings. Why can't you let it rest at that? I don't ever want to go back to Greece, after the hell I had to live through. After the things you did to me!" she bellowed at him.

"And what about the things I had to go through Glykia mou? After you left me? What about my pain, my humiliation and loneliness? And the pitying glances and vicious gossip aimed at me, after my wife of two months left me to run back to America?" He hissed back at her, in an equally vicious tone.

But those angrily spoken words had finally told her, what he had been refusing to do until now. 'His real reason for coming here.'

He wanted revenge! His vast titanic sized ego had taken a hit when she had left him and returned to America. And he had felt humiliated in front of his high-fi social circle and aristocratic friends for getting dumped by his new bride, so soon after their marriage. Because as a rule, it had always been Eros himself, who had done the dumping part in a relationship.

"Please! You were hardly lonely.....your whole family was there, rallying behind you." She replied bitingly. 'Plus Grace Anderson was there to cheer up your nights as well.' She thought, but didn't dare say it out loud.

Eros had no idea, that she knew about his affair with the exotic model and Anna wanted to keep it that way.

"speaking of family, how is your mother?" She needled him deliberately, knowing fully well that the mention of his mother will finally make him show his defensive side.

"She is well." He nodded simply, exhibiting neither a reaction nor any hostility to that query.

A year ago though, he had taken his mother's side, every single time that they had an argument. His mother, the esteemed Despina Kozakis had hated Anna, from the first moment that they had come face-to face.

She had wanted a good little Greek girl for her son - from a rich, aristocratic Greek family, just like their own.

But instead, she had been presented with an American model, who neither had any family – nor background.

And THAT had ultimately started the feud. Anna sighed.

The woman had believed that she was- " a cheap little tart, who wore sluttly revealing clothes and paraded in front of men, to earn her living." Were her exact words for Anna.

Despina Kozakis had lived in the mansion along with her and Eros, who had refused to leave his mother with the argument that she needed support after loosing her husband only a few months ago.

And then she had terrorized Anna's every moment of the day with her constant jabs and barbs about Anna's modelling career, her lack of collage degree, the revealing clothes that she wore etcetera, etcetera...

The woman had despised Anna, she had hated and disapproved of every single thing that Anna did.

Towards the end Anna used to take great pains to remain in her room for most of the day or walking in the meadows outside, to stay the hell out of her mother-in-laws way.

In fact, she was quite sure that if it hadn't been Grace Anderson – It would have been Despina Kozakis herself, who would have broken up her already tumultuous marriage with Eros, sooner or later.

"Tell me, was she jumping in joy after I left you? I bet she was grinning with glee when she broke the news of my return to USA!" Anna smiled bitterly, reminiscing about yet another horrible part of her broken marriage.

"Don't be facetious, Anna. My mother had always treated you with respect and you will show the same curtsy to her!" Eros glared at her.

'Ha! And there it was! All that defensiveness he felt his mother and the need to protect her at all costs!' This was what Anna had wanted to see.

He had always refused to see any fault in his purer than gold – mother. And thus, Anna had always come out as the villain in every single situation.

Somehow, at the end - all the fault had been neatly folded and stacked atop Anna's head before, Eros started berating her.

"Of course, my apologies...."Anna bowed her head, while in truth she wanted to break out in a hysterical laughter that was slowly building up within her.

"But of course, she was right about you. From the day one, that she met you – she had been telling me over and over again, that you were untrustworthy, too Americanized and modernized - to be a good wife to me. But like a fool – I never listened to her!" Eros spoke with a savage movement of his hands.

"In my arrogance, I thought you will be happy in our home, as my wife and someday as the mother of my children! But boy, was I wrong!" He shook his head in a self deprecating way.

"But she was proved right at the end, wasn't she? YOU left me! Just got up one day and disappeared without a word! She was indeed right when she said that you didn't deserve to be my wife!"
