Chapter Nine
The rest of the day at the mansion unfolded in a blend of quiet activities and moments of connection. After their morning walk in the garden, the family dispersed to their various tasks, leaving Valerie to explore her new environment further.
Dante had disappeared into his study, immersed in work that demanded his attention. Valerie had caught glimpses of him through open doors, bent over his desk with an intense focus that made her hesitant to disturb him. She had hoped to learn more about him and perhaps even discuss the peculiar situation that had brought her to their home, but it seemed today was not the day for that.
Lyria, on the other hand, had a full schedule of tutors. Valerie observed from a distance as Lyria moved from one lesson to another with a grace and ease that spoke of routine. Tutors came and went, each carrying books and scrolls, their faces marked by the seriousness of their profession. Lyria handled it all with a calm demeanor, though Valerie couldn’t help but wonder if there was more to the young vampire's life than just endless lessons.
As lunchtime approached, Valerie found herself alone in the large, sunlit kitchen. She decided to make herself a simple meal, rummaging through the pantry and fridge. The staff seemed to have been informed of her presence and had kindly stocked items that were familiar to her. She prepared a sandwich and some fruit, enjoying the quiet solitude.
After lunch, Valerie wandered back into the living room, where she found Lyria between lessons, reading a book on one of the sofas.
"Hi, Lyria," Valerie greeted, taking a seat across from her.
Lyria looked up and smiled. "Hi, Valerie. How’s your day going?"
"Good, thank you. It's been quiet," Valerie replied. "You seem to have a lot of lessons."
Lyria sighed, closing her book. "Yes, it's part of our family's tradition to be well-educated. Sometimes it feels like too much, but I understand the importance."
Valerie nodded, understanding the weight of expectations. "What are you studying?"
"A bit of everything," Lyria said with a small laugh. "History, literature, magic... My parents believe in a well-rounded education."
"That sounds intense," Valerie said. "But also fascinating. I never had formal lessons like that."
Lyria's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "Tell me more about your life in Luminae."
Valerie smiled, reminiscing. "Luminae is a beautiful place, filled with magic and nature. Our education is more hands-on, learning from our elders and the land itself. It's a different kind of knowledge."
"It sounds wonderful," Lyria said wistfully. "I'd love to visit someday."
"Maybe one day you will," Valerie said, feeling a pang of homesickness. "There’s so much to see and experience there."
Their conversation was interrupted by the arrival of Lyria's next tutor. Valerie excused herself, letting Lyria return to her studies. She spent the afternoon exploring the mansion further, discovering hidden nooks and crannies, and occasionally chatting with the staff, who were all very accommodating.
As evening approached, Azar’s wife found Valerie in the library, where she had settled with a book.
"Valerie, could you help with something?" she asked kindly.
"Of course," Valerie replied, setting her book aside.
"Dante has had a long day, and I was hoping you could make some tea to help him relax. He likes a special blend that we don’t have here," she explained.
Valerie thought for a moment. "I can make a special green tea my mother used to prepare. It’s very calming."
"That sounds perfect," Azar’s wife said with a smile. "Thank you, dear."
Valerie made her way to the kitchen, gathering the ingredients for the green tea. She felt a sense of nostalgia as she prepared the tea, remembering how her mother would make it for her after a long day. The aroma of the tea filled the kitchen, bringing a sense of comfort and warmth.
When the tea was ready, she carried the tray to Dante’s study. She knocked softly and waited for his response.
"Come in," came Dante’s voice.
Valerie entered, finding Dante still engrossed in his work. He looked up, surprised but pleased to see her.
"Your mother asked me to bring you some tea," Valerie said, setting the tray on his desk.
Dante looked at the cup of tea, then back at Valerie. He just nodded his head.
"It's a special green tea my mother used to make. It's very calming," she explained.
Dante took a sip, his expression softening. "Mm."
Valerie nodded, feeling a small sense of accomplishment. "I'm glad you like it."
As Dante continued to drink his tea, Valerie noticed the fatigue in his eyes. "Is there anything else I can do for you?"
Dante shook his head. "No, this is perfect."
Valerie left him to enjoy his tea and returned to her room, feeling a bit more settled in her new environment. Later, A girl approached her, she was a maid in their mansion.
"Don't forget, you're Dante's new assistant and now it's time for him to take his bath." The girl said with a serious face.
"Okay, thank you. " Valerie replied, making her way to the bathroom attached to Dante’s room. She filled the tub with warm water and added some fragrant oils, creating a soothing atmosphere.
When everything was ready, she went to inform Dante. He followed her to the bathroom, and she couldn’t help but feel a bit awkward.
Dante took off his shirt not minding the fact that she was standing there, it's not like she has not seen his body before but this was very weird for her, Valerie immediatly excused herself and walked out of his room.
As the evening progressed, the family gathered for dinner. The dining room was filled with the delicious aromas of the meal, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Valerie joined them, feeling more like part of the family with each passing moment.
"How was your day, everyone?" Azar’s wife asked as they began to eat.
"Productive," Dante replied, his tone relaxed and his voice deep.
Lyria spoke up next. "My lessons went well. I even had some time to chat with Valerie."
"That’s wonderful," Azar’s wife said. "Valerie, how was your day?"
"It was good. I explored the house and the garden. It's a beautiful place," Valerie said, feeling a sense of gratitude.
After dinner, they all retired to their rooms, ready to rest. Valerie felt a sense of contentment as she settled into her bed. Despite the uncertainties of her situation, she felt a sense of belonging in this new world. She closed her eyes, letting the day's events wash over her, and drifted into a peaceful sleep, feeling hopeful for the days to come.
