Chapter 4
Blake's stories. Their coffee date was going better than she'd expected. She felt a connection with him, a sense of ease she couldn't explain.
Just as they were getting comfortable, a voice interrupted them.
"Hey, Kyle! Isn't that...?"
Ava turned to see Kyle's best friend, Wyatt, standing behind them, a curious expression on his face. Kyle followed, his eyes fixed on Ava and Blake.
"Ava, what are you doing here?" Kyle asked, his tone tense.
Ava stood up, feeling a sense of unease. "Just grabbing coffee, Kyle. What's it to you?"
Kyle's eyes narrowed at Blake. "You're with him? After what I told you?"
Ava's frustration boiled over. "Kyle, stop being so overprotective! I can handle myself."
But Kyle wasn't listening. He took a step closer to Blake, his fists clenched. "You're not good enough for her, Rampage."
Blake stood up, his eyes flashing with anger. "And who are you to decide that?"
The tension between them was palpable. Wyatt tried to intervene, but Kyle was beyond reason. He lunged at Blake, tripping him, and the two of them crashed to the ground.
Ava watched in horror as Kyle beat Blake, his anger consuming him. Finally, Wyatt managed to pull Kyle off, and he stormed out of the coffee shop, dragging Ava behind him.
As they walked home, Ava's anger and embarrassment simmered. "Kyle, what's wrong with you? Why can't you just let me live my life?"
Kyle's jaw clenched, his eyes still blazing with anger. "I won't let him hurt you, Ava. I won't let anyone hurt you."
Ava and Kyle's argument escalated as they walked into their house, their voices raised in anger.
"You're always so controlling, Kyle!" Ava exclaimed. "Can't you just trust me to make my own decisions?"
"Trust you?" Kyle scoffed. "You're clearly not thinking straight if you're hanging out with someone like Rampage!"
Their mother, exhausted from work, intervened, "That's enough, both of you! Cut it out!"
Ava and Kyle glared at each other, but finally fell silent.
Meanwhile, Wyatt sat on the couch, oblivious to the drama. He was too engrossed in Disney's The Princess and the Frog, singing along to "Almost There" in a ridiculous voice.
Ava rolled her eyes, shaking her head. "Only Wyatt could find joy in a Disney movie during a family feud."
Kyle scowled, still fuming. "Yeah, well, someone needs to bring some sanity to this family."
Wyatt, still watching the movie, chimed in, "Hey, guys! Can we get some beignets? I'm craving something sweet!"
Ava couldn't help but laugh at Wyatt's absurdity, and even Kyle cracked a small smile.
