"Ya-- wait up," Aera called, running after the boy she would much rather run away from. It was getting dark, and her legs were burning after a day of practise. This was supposed to be her break time, but instead she had to go on another task.

He turned around, looking at her with surprise. "I didn't steal the bread."

"What?" Aera asked confused, "that was you?"

His eyes widened, "no?"

Aera shook her head, groaning, "that's not what I wanted to ask you."

"What else would the sensei's daughter want to talk to me for? Lecture me about how I didn't do my kick right?"

Aera shook her head, cheeks flushing with frustration.

"Or are you just here to brag to me that you got the badge. Surprise, I already know," he deadpanned, "what's the real reason? Just spit it out."

Aera clenched her fists and locked her jaw, trying to take deep breaths. He would never want to be friends with you if you whooped his ass and left him in the grass.

"I just wanted to be friends."

He was taken aback for a second, then narrowed his eyes, "is this some sort of assignment to spy on me?"

Shit.

"You know what? Nevermind. I was trying to give you a chance. If I knew you were going to be such an asshole, I never would've approached you in the first place."

Aera turned to leave, cursing at herself for saying that. She had blown her chances, lashed out and had gotten angry.

Sensei Kim would be disappointed.

"Wait Kim."

Yes, she cheered mentally. "Yeah?"

"I'm sorry."

She turned around, making sure it was Kwon that was saying that.

What the fuck?

He ran up to her, towering over her by six inches, "Want to go somewhere cool?"

She raised an eyebrow, "depends where it is. I think I know this place better than you-- I was born here after all."

He rolled his eyes and started walking away, straying from the path she would usually take. They weren't supposed to stray. They were supposed to go straight back after supper. Like Kwon cared

She couldn't get in trouble for it, could she? After all, this was an assignment.

"Don't say you're too scared to break the rules, Aera." He called. After a brief moment of hesitation, she followed. The path they were walking on was unfamiliar, if you could even call it a path. It was a slightly tamer path to navigate the wild forest.

She bit her lip as they walked further, knowing the dangers that lay in the forest. The trees started growing closer together, blocking the setting sun.

Soon, she could barely see under the thick layers of the leaves above. She stopped in her tracks, losing sight of the cocky man that was just in front of her.

"boo"

She shrieked, jumping and punching Kwon in the ribs. Squinting, she saw him doubling over in pain.

"What the hell, Kwon?" She exclaimed, "what's wrong with you?"

"What's wrong with you?"

"I had a perfectly normal reaction for being scared after being left alone in a forest by a boy that was supposed to guide me." She said, annoyed.
