Everything was peaceful at Home Castle.

The drinks were seemingly neverending, the bunks were cramped but comfortable, the music was lively, the workers were informative and helpful, and the King kept them safe, despite his old age.

Things weren't perfect by any means, though, no. Of the several knighted residents, three Knights stood apart from the rest: The Heathers.

The Heathers were untouchable, held up on a social pedestal by all who resided in Home Castle. They were assholes, sure, but no one was brave enough to stand up to them. No, in addition to their strong stats and unique magic, everyone respected- Or, better yet, feared- Them too much to try and keep them in check.

Heather McNamara, the Orange Knight, was the nicest of the bunch. She was more timid and compassionate than the other Heathers, almost to the extent to where she didn't fit in with them, but she was just as pretty and just as powerful as the other two. Her magic was strong, too. She could send a blast of fire your way at any time, giving you severe burns and knocking out a good number of your hit points.

Heather Duke, the Green Knight, had a sharp tongue and a lack of empathy for anyone around her. Her magic was that of poison, making you feel very sick for a few ticks after a blast, as well as some pretty good initial damage. Her heavy attack was different and perhaps not as good as the other Heathers', but she made up for it with her usefulness and sharp attitude. She kept Heather Mac in check most of the time, though she was still second in command to the most notable Heather of the group.

Heather Chandler, the Red Knight, was the top dog. She could make or break your social status in a second. Her magic was electric and had the ability to stun her enemies (if her sharp looks didn't do that already). Everyone knew to stay out of her way, no matter how much they hated her. Their life could be figuratively over in the bat of an eye if they got on her wrong side.

Also residing in Home Castle was Veronica Sawyer, the Blue Knight. Her magic, which was that of ice, was just as strong as the Heathers, or at least Heather Duke and Heather Mac, but that didn't matter. She was a certified loser and everyone knew it.

The only one lower on the social food chain than her was her best friend, Martha Dunnstock, the Pink Knight. Her magic was powerful, but too juvenile and dumb, according to the Heathers. Her magic consisted of rainbows and cute animals that exploded. In addition to her too-cheery demeanor and "childish" magic, she was also on the thicker side, something that was evident even through her armor. Veronica didn't see what the issue was with that, but the Heathers (and therefore everyone else) found it to be an endless well for mockery, even nicknaming her Martha Dumptruck.

The bullying bothered Martha, yes, but ultimately she wasn't too bothered about it because she had Veronica with her. Veronica didn't call her mean names or treat her like a loser. No, Veronica would hang out and watch movies with her.

Martha also had a crush on Ram Sweeney, one of many Grey Knights and the sort-of boyfriend of Heather McNamara.

She and Ram had kissed way back in Kindergarten and he'd been her boyfriend (or, as much of a boyfriend as was possible at that age) that whole school year. Once first grade rolled around, he wised up to the fact that being seen with Martha Dumptruck was social suicide, so he had let her down gently and then promptly forgot about her, instead putting his attention toward this pretty girl named Heather McNamara and his best friend, Kurt Kelly, another Grey Knight.

Everyone had their suspicions that Kurt, at least, saw that friendship as more than just platonic, but that was never confirmed. Kurt's father was infamously really homophobic and, if there was something between the two boys, it was easily covered up by Ram's sort-of relationship with Heather Mac and Kurt's very public pining over Heather Chandler.

The rumors could never be confirmed because, well, as the residents of Home Castle were enjoying another party, drinks and music and chatter filling the air, things were suddenly interrupted by a bloody Grey Knight being thrown down the entranceway, a big staircase that led out to the rest of the King's territory.

The Knight struggled for a moment once he hit the bottom, before his body inevitably gave out on him and he fell into eternal slumber, the first violent death that Home Castle had seen in many decades.

It was Ram who inspected the body, horrified to realize that this particular Knight was his best friend, Kurt Kelly.

Before anyone could stop him, he ran up the stairs and out of the Castle to avenge his friend. With that, the other Grey Knights in the room followed him, leaving only the Heathers, Veronica, Martha, some miscellaneous workers and civilians, and a mysterious purple Knight in the corner: The Blacksmith.

Veronica found her gaze lingering on the Blacksmith for a moment. No one even knew his name, just that he was the keeper of all their weapons and that he didn't exactly have the best reputation.

Her attention was quickly stolen, though, by the Heathers, who declared they would leap into action and help- Certainly having a better chance at facing whatever was out there than any of the Grey Knights did.

Veronica realized this could be her last and only chance to ever reach a less pathetic social status, if she joined the Heathers in their quest.

"Aren't you besties with Martha Dumptruck over there?" Heather Duke questioned, gesturing to the Pink Knight, who looked away, humiliated. Martha waited for Veronica to defend her like she always did, but, to her shock...

"That loser?" Veronica asked back, guilt filling her stomach but her need for social validation overriding it. "Maybe in the past, but I know better now. That girl is a social bullet wound to anyone she interacts with"

Martha cried now, rushing out of Home Castle to who-knows-where. The Blacksmith followed after her, which Veronica found herself worried about, but her attention was once again stolen back by the Heathers.

"I like your attitude" Heather Mac spoke up. The other Heathers nodded in agreement and then near-silence filled the room as Heather Chandler began contemplating.

"How useful are you?"

"Well, I have pretty good magic" Veronica demonstrated her ice magic on one of the training dummies. The Heathers (barring Chandler, who maintained a strict expression) awed at her power. "I do a lot of strength training too" she added before demonstrating her light and heavy attacks on the other training dummy, ripping it to shreds.

"I like it" Heather Chandler allowed. After a moment of tense quiet, she nodded. "You can join us. But, one wrong move, and it's all over"

"Yes, ma'am"
