Book 1- Chapter 4: Why Are You Here?

A few days later I woke up to my early alarm. It was the day for Grim and I to leave for the Sunset Savannah with Leona, Jack, Vil, and Lilia. I had to admit, I was actually pretty excited. I was nervous, definitely, but excited nonetheless. Besides Grim, I didn't know the others very well. I was there when Leona and Vil both overblotted, the former landing me in the infirmary and the latter... that was just a weird day. Leona I had also bunked with Leona when Azul kicked me out of Ramshackle, so we had a strange relationship. Lilia I had seen around the school on occasion, but didn't talk to very often. Jack, on the other hand, was a fellow freshman so I had him in a few classes. I'd invited him over to the dorm a few times when some of the other freshmen were there for study sessions.

I was the only one awake in the dorm, so I made myself breakfast and actually had a peaceful morning to get ready. A rare occasion at this school. I ate and showered then had to confront what I would wear.

I knew that I should dress up a bit, since I would be following around a prince in his home city, along with one of the most famous models in this world, but I also had to remember the fact it was going to be very hot there. Or at least very sunny.

After staring at my closet for longer than I probably should have, I grabbed a black sleeveless top with a high neck - I probably should have stayed away from black but I had a very limited color variety in my closet due to the fact that I left my entire closet behind when I went through the portal -and a pair of short shorts and thin tights to wear beneath them.

I grabbed a belt in (f/c) that I got while out shopping to add some color to the ensemble. Thankfully when I went shopping with the others from the SDC team, Vil had convinced me to get a thin linen wrap with a simple pattern that matched the belt I wore. It was good for covering up in the summer, and I could tie it around my waist if needed, though it also had a tie so I could cinch it around my waist when I had it on. I really just needed something to protect my skin from the harsh sun.

I had a small selection of jewelry besides earrings, but it was almost entirely silver. I fished out a chain with star charms that attached to the belt loops on my pants. I also found a bracelet and a few necklaces to layer. There was a large selection of earrings, but most of them were ill-suited for the event. Eventually I settled on a pair that had a small bird on one that was connected to a silver cuff by a matching chain. The other was a small silver snake, since I lost the matching piece to both pairs. You would have to get close to notice either so it didn't matter much.

Unfortunately I didn't have a hat or anything to wear, not that I probably would have anyways. I did, instead, put my hair back into a ponytail, leaving a few strands out to frame my face.

A minute later I stood in front of the mirror, nodding. With my limited options this was the best I could do. I doubted it was suited for walking around with a Prince and a model and the rest of the group, but I also couldn't really do better.

There was still about twenty minutes before we had to leave, so I got a can of tuna down for grim and woke him up so he could eat before we left.

As he devoured his favorite food that I still couldn't stand I went upstairs to let Yuu know we were leaving. I'd told him what Leona told us just about the moment we got back. He had already told me he wanted to stay back and watch after the dorm while we were gone, which I was grateful for.

Grim and I were on our way to the Mirror Chamber. I had a messenger bag slung over my shoulder, a few needed items- such as my tablet and the book I was reading plus my charger -were shoved inside and also left room for Grim to lay in when he wanted to make me carry him without sitting on my shoulder.
