The Shadow Hill

I'm Ava Parker. I went missing on July 16th, 1967. No one knows what really happened that day at Shadow Hill, but today everything will be revealed

My brother Sam and I had always been told to never go near Shadow Hill. It was rumored that anyone who went there disappeared. Sam, who had just turned 13, convinced me to go with him to the hill. I was 8 and eager to impress my older brother, so I agreed. That evening, as the sun set, we left through the back gate with our backpacks and flashlights, heading for Shadow Hill.

We arrived at Shadow Hill just as darkness fell. The hill was eerie, with twisted trees and a strange fog that seemed to cling to the ground. I turned to my brother and said, "Sam, I'm scared. Can we please go home?"

He laughed softly and replied, "Come on, Ava, don't be a baby. There's a ledge up ahead I want to check out. Let's go." With that, he ran off into the fog, and I followed, calling for him to wait. "Sam! Sam! Wait, it's dangerous!"

Panting, I caught up to him as we approached the ledge. The fog had thickened, and I felt completely disoriented. Sam said, "Ava, you're such a baby. We'll stay here a little longer, then we'll leave, okay?" Not wanting him to think I was scared, I reluctantly agreed. I sat down a safe distance from the ledge.

Sam, however, wanted to get closer. "Ava, come on, just get closer. You won't fall, you chicken," he taunted, edging towards the brink. "Sam, let's go home already. I don't like it here," I pleaded, but he wouldn't listen.

As I stood to leave, he grabbed my arm. "Ava, look out!" he shouted as a snake slithered near my foot. Startled, I stumbled backward, the pain from the snake bite shooting through me. I screamed and started sobbing. Panicking, Sam tried to help, but in his fear, he pushed me closer to the edge. Losing my balance, I tumbled over.

Sam, terrified of getting in trouble, ran home and told our parents that I had insisted on going to Shadow Hill and fell off the ledge...
