As the last bit of the late spring sun began to set, Yang moved a bit comfortably in the nicest outfit she owned, a yellow short sleeve blouse with a yellow ribbon tied in the front, black pants, and comfortable black boots.
She walked over to where Blake stood, at the center of where a hiking trail began.
To her surprise, Blake was wearing a short sleeve lavender dress, with cap sleeves. The dress went down to her knees. She wore a small diamond necklace, and white lace shoes.
"Hey you." Yang said, trying to make sure her voice did not sound as nervous.
Blake turned around, "Hey. I was wondering when you would show up."
"Not too late, not too early. Just the right timing." Yang said, standing by Blake and giving her a quick kiss on the cheek.
Blake gave a bashful smile up at Yang. Before Yang could ask questions, Blake started down the path.
"Come on, I want to show you something."
Yang followed, the two walking side by side in comfortable silence.
The trees helped shade most of the dirt path, the winding roads leading to small meadows of luscious green grass scattered in various hues of flowers, poking out from among the blades.
Yang felt a light touch on her left hand. She turned her head slightly and saw Blake's cheeks a dark pink reaching up to her ears.
The touch went away. Yang swung her arm casually, and reached for Blake's hand, encasing the soft fingers between her own.
The two let out a light laugh.
"We're almost there."
"Luckily I wore my boots this time."
"Oh definitely, this would be a miserable hike to do in heels."
The two's laughter filled the rest of the path, as they approached the edge of a hill.
Nestled in between the tall trees and small scrubs, was a stone gazebo shaped structure, surrounded by tall pillars, which were covered in vines.
Yang looked down at the structure, "Oh wow. I did not know this was down here."
The two started toward the structure, softly sliding among the first hill until they reached the bottom.
Yang let go of Blake's hand and wandered over to the stones encased in pollen and moss, "You know, it almost feels familiar in a way."
"Almost like the gazebo shape and pillars of the initiation ceremony at Beacon Academy. That is where we found the two ponies."
Yang let out a chuckle, "Oh yeah. I remember that day. The day we became teammates."
Blake smiled softly, "And we became so much more than that."
Yang turned to face Blake, her heart fluttering at the sight of her among the greenery and fading sunlight.
Yang cleared her throat, "I have something to say."
"Me too." Blake said, taking a step forward.
"It's pretty important." Yang said, trying to keep herself from getting too close to Blake. To rush over and hold her. To nestle her nose into her neck and whisper all the things she loved about her.
"Yeah, I would say mine is as well." Blake stopped a few inches away from Yang, her eyes looking up at Yang as she said gently, "But please Yang, tell me first what is on your mind and heart."
Yang licked her lips nervously, "Blake, I wanted to let you know how much you mean to me. We've been through a lot together, and well, I wanted to make our relationship official."
Yang reached her right arm into her pocket, the mechanical fingers gripping a box and pulling it out.
She steadied her breathing as she got down on one knee. She heard Blake gasp and looked up to see Blake covering her mouth with her hands.
Yang started to smile until she heard Blake say, "Wait, wait a moment."
Yang felt her smile start to fall.
Yet, Blake pulled out an object from her dress pocket.
Holding the item in her hand, Blake got down on her knee in front of Yang.
"I feel we both had the same idea when we made this date today." Blake said with a gentle laugh.
"I guess so." Yang said, joining in Blake's laughter.
Blake looked up at Yang, "Yang, you mean so much to me. You are always there to listen to me, to give me hope, and inspire me to become a better person. I want to be there for you always, just like you are for me. I wanted to ask you..."
Blake opened her box. Yang quickly opened hers.
Yang stared at the simple silver circle adored with yellow and purple crystals.
She watched as Blake's eyes widened at the side of a silver ring twisted and lined with white diamonds, with a large purple amethyst in the center.
"Will you marry me?" Blake and Yang both asked each other at the same time.
They both let out a laugh.
"Yes." Blake said warmly.
"Yes." Yang said confidently.
They each took turns putting on the rings.
Yang stood up and helped Blake to her feet.
"Is your dress ok? I feel bad."
"No, that is why settle for knee length, that way the dress would not get dirty."
Yang grinned. She finally put her arms around Blake, drawing her in closer. "Sounds like my fiancé is both smart and beautiful."
Blake smiled up at Yang, circling her arms around Yang as the light caught in the ring, "Fiancé. I can get used to hearing that word."
The two shared sweet, spring scented kisses under the dimming sky.
To be continued.
