The Closed Path

Firey walked along the path, an emotion so familiar and yet unfamiliar tried to sink its way into himself, but he ignored it. He was good at ignoring that which disturbed him.

Firey heard Snowball and Golfball's voices as he stepped inside a restaurant, currently Golfball was calling Snowball an idiot. This was something he could ignore.

Conflict resolution had never been his forte. Leafy had been pretty good at resolving other peoples conflicts, Leafy was good with people. He hadn't heard anything from her since he'd locked her out, he briefly wondered what she was doing now. She probably hated him, he wasn't sure how he felt about that. It was better not to think about it.

Firey placed his order into the machine and waited. When it didn't come out Firey checked the kitchen.

"Golfball, the kitchen robot broke again" Firey called out

Golfball continued her argument

"Golfball did you hear me?"

Golfball finally pulled away from the argument.

"Seriously, again? I'll deal with it." She said it like it was Firey's fault somehow.

Firey ended up getting his lunch from a different restaurant.

Firey sat at his table, besides himself the only people in the restaurant were Needle and Coiny. He intentionally sat far from the two.

He hadn't expected running Dream Island to be such a hassle. It wouldn't be, if it were not for the residents. Blocky's pranks had been a big issue, he'd flooded the hotel lobby, he kept messing with the recovery centers, and whatever other chaos he could think of. Flower kept arguing with people, Golf ball seemed to think she was in charge of everyone, Snowball kept fighting people, and-

He was pulled from his thoughts by the door opening.

Pin entered the restaurant, and walked straight forward to the kiosk. She ordered two to-go meals and waited impatiently. Soon Match walked in soon and began placing her own order.

When Pin's boxes came out she grabbed them, but was interrupted by Match.

"Hey Pin, why're you like, getting two meals?"

"One is for a friend"

"But you don't like, have any friends"

Pin glared at her "Well, why are you ordering 4 meals?"

"Because I like, actually have friends. My alliance, in case you forgot. I bet you're like, making this friend up"

"I'm not making it up!"

"Then what's this friend's name?"

"None of your business!" Pin headed to the door, Match shouted "Have fun with your imaginary friend!"

It was almost impressive how every interaction on quickly devolved into some argument.

Firey had an ongoing mental list of people he regretted letting in.

Match placed the to-go food on the table, annoyance lining her face. Currently they were on the roof of the hotel, which they had quickly claimed as "their spot"

"Match, why do you look so annoyed?" Bubble asked

"Ugh, I like, ran into Pin while picking up our lunch" Match leaned against the table dramatically

Pencil patted her shoulder comfortingly "Well, this leads into my point" Pencil began

"I was thinking, we should expand our alliance"

"What?" Icy asked

"Why would we like, expand?"

"We need areas exclusive to our alliance, so we can avoid people like Pin, but with our current small size that's difficult to do" Pencil continued "Once we're bigger we can negotiate with Firey to officially get our own areas"

"Who were you, like, thinking of adding?"

Needle and Coiny were having lunch together, Coiny rolled his eyes when Firey entered the restaurant.

"I still can't believe Firey let you in" Needle whispered

"Believe it or not but I can be very convincing" Coiny bragged

When Pin entered the restaurant they didn't pay her much mind, but when she got into an argument with Match they watched curiously.

Pin stormed out afterwards, and Match yelled a taunt after her.

"That was odd, wasn't it, Needy?" Needle promptly slapped him.

"Don't call me Needy, but yeah"

"I wonder who Pin's friend is, the only person I ever saw her get along with was..." Coiny trailed off, the implication hung in the air.

Needle considered the possibility.

"Or, maybe she's just making it up"

Pin entered her room, she set the food out on the table and sat down.

Leafy hurried over once she heard the door open "Hey Pin! Why do you look so annoyed?"

"I saw Match"

"Oh right, you two don't get along" Leafy said, more to herself than anything.

Pin watched Leafy eat, despite the less than ideal circumstances she was still about as cheerful as ever. Usually anyways. As long as certain topics weren't brought up.

Pin noticed Leafy was staring at her "What?" She asked

"Oh I just, thank you again for letting me stay here. I appreciate it" Leafy had developed the habit of thanking Pin, often. Most people might've found it annoying, but Pin enjoyed the praise.

"Yeah, well, Firey shouldn't have locked you out in the first place. You deserve to be here, you're the only person who is actually tolerable. If I had won I would've locked out everyone besides you"

"That's a bit intense, though yeah, Firey shouldn't have locked me out." Leafy's expression darkened as she said his name. "But that's okay, what's done is done, what we need to do now is wait for the opportunity to present itself"

"The opportunity? For what?" Pin asked

"For a change in leadership of course!" Leafy said it so cheerfully, so casually, but there was an intensity in her eyes. A silence fell over them, before Leafy spoke again.

"I wish I could be out there, I want to experience Dream Island too. I miss Icy and Bubble and everyone. Things were kind of messy near the end with Bubble, I wonder what she thinks of me"

"Do you want to sneak out of the room tonight? Just for a bit, you've barely seen the island at all" Pin offered

Leafy hesitated "Is that the best idea? I don't want you to get in trouble if we get caught"

"We won't! Barely anyone even leaves their room at night!"

Leafy considered

"Okay, then yeah, let's do it!"
