❝ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ ᴏɴᴇ.❞

A young female laid in her twin sized bed, sleeping peaceful up until the moment that an older female barged into the room.

"Mazikeen!" The elderly woman angrily snapped

Mazikeen's eyes snapped open, quickly sitting up in her bed. "I was just resting my eyes."

"I thought I told you to have them goddamn dishes done." Nessa crossed her arms.

"I forgot. It happens," Mazikeen defended, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.

"You know what better happen? Them dishes or my foot gonna happen to be up your ass." Nessa sent her only child a stern look.

"I hear ya," Mazikeen grumbled, already crawling out of the bed.

"I don't think you do. Stop being so lazy." Nessa flicked her ear.

Mazikeen squinted her eyes but knew better than to say anything else. It had been like that for a while. Just her and her mom. Ever since her father left. It seemed like with his disappearance her mother was harder on her.

"After your done with the dishes I need you to run down to the store and get me some cigarettes." Nessa handed Mazikeen some money.

"Thought we was supposed to be focusing on our needs and not our wants?" Mazikeen mumbled, slipping her jacket on.

"Girl, hush." Nessa waved off. "I need cigarettes. They help me get work done."

"Mhm." Mazikeen nodded unimpressed.

"Didn't I tell you to do them dishes?" Nessa narrowed her eyes.

Mazikeen maneuvered her way through the streets of South London. While turning the corner she bumps in a light skin male dressed in a gray Nike tracksuit with smoker lips surrounded by a group of other guys.

"Watch where you going fool." Mazikeen huffed in mild irritation.

He kissed his teeth, eyeing Mazi up and down but ultimately deciding on ignoring her, and continuing his walk.

Mazikeen walked into store, approaching the counter, and slapping the bill on the counter. "Newport shorts."

"This is not enough," the male behind the counter muttered in annoyance. Mazikeen came into the store nearly everyday and every time she did she never had enough money.

Mazikeen arched an eyebrow, grinning 'innocently' up at the man. "Make it enough."

He gave her a blank impatient stare which resulted in Mazi kissing her teeth. "Alright, remember that."

The store's door bell rang as a young dark skin male with twists walked in. "I got it."

Mazi glanced at the young boy who she recognized as Tiny. The son of one of her father's old friends. He gave the male the extra money for Mazi.

"Good looking out, Tiny. I owe ya." Mazi patted Tiny's shoulder who grinned and nodded.

"You on the other hand." Mazi pointed at the employee. "Fuck you."
