chapter 1: where are they?

In mistral V and Johnny were training Kerry how to fight like a huntsman in preparation for the upcoming battle against Salem's forces, though his progress was quite rubbish upon their first few sessions.

Today Kerry was fighting Ozpin by controlling Oscar's body and struggling to keep up with the skilled headmaster.

"fuck!" Kerry cursed under his breath as he got knocked down once again.

"Hmm," Ozpin hummed in amusement. "You certainly have potential, Kerry, but you still have a long way to go."

"Tell me about it," Kerry said as he got up and dusted himself off. "I can shoot, but none of the weapons V collected have the same kick as mine."

"Yeah, since you couldn't find any, I scraped them all, but I'm sure I can modify one to match yours," V said.

"Hmm, if I recall, Ruby did create Crescent Rose when she was in Signal Academy," Ozpin said.

"She made her weapon?" Johnny asked.

"Indeed, she did," Ozpin replied with a nod. "Perhaps she might help Kerry design a new one for you."

"Really? That would be amazing," Kerry said, a spark of excitement in his eyes. "I'll talk to Ruby about it right away."

As Kerry ran into the house, V and Johnny walked up to Ozpin.

"Kerry is quite the enthusiastic rebel, just like you, Johnny," Ozpin said.

"Well, not quite like me, but close enough," Johnny said.

"Yeah, remember me and Kerry were trying to sabotage the "Us Cracks?" V said.

"You sabotaged a group called the "Us Cracks"? Ozpin asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Basically, the "Us Cracks" were being used to play one of Kerry's songs without his permission," V said.

"It sounds like Kerry has a strong sense of ownership over his music," Ozpin remarked.

"It was found out when Kerry drew a gun on them, threatening to shoot if they canceled the show," Johnny said.

"But I managed to calm him down and make sure Kerry didn't do anything he would regret," V said.

"Hmm, I must say, for a drastic situation like that, you handled it quite well," Ozpin commented.

"I try to change Night City for the better," V responded.

"By the way, V, you wouldn't happen to be going after Maelstrom by now?" Johnny asked.

"Nah, I did some snooping around in the black market in Mistal; I heard they left Mistral after the Haven attack," V replied.

"Good to know they're out of the picture for now," Johnny remarked.

"But we still need to keep an eye out for any other threats, especially ones in Night City," Ozpin added.

"But I like to ask, when you were in the black market, you wouldn't have happened to buy anything?" Johnny asked.

"I actually did; it happened to be a chip that the vendor said he scrapped from a Maelstrom gang member," V said.

"And what's this chip supposed to do?" Ozpin asked.

"It's called "reboot Optics," and it's supposed to hack into cyberware and temporarily blind the target," V replied with a mischievous grin.

"Hmm, interesting," Ozpin murmured, intrigued by the potential uses of such a dangerous tool, "but I suspect that might be less effective since cyberware is quite rare amongst huntsmen and huntresses."
