Chapter 8

The Reaper

I sprint down the corridor only to almost smack right into another stone wall. Fuck. I spin running back the way I came turning left once then right making it another couple meters before making three right turns and. "Damit!" another dead end.

She went this way I know it. I stand in the dead end caching my breath. Father created a maze. Walls rose from the floor and now we're stuck playing round about hide and seek kill with our new guests. But this maze keeps changing every time I feel I have figured it out the walls move and screw me over.

There are two numbers projected on the wall above the maze. A green 7 and a yellow 22. 21 now. And it doesn't take much to figure it out. We're green and they are yellow whenever someone dies the number goes down.

I crouch down resting my arms on my knees. The scraping and banging of walls moving fills my ears.

There that one was right beside me. I get up and round the corner just as I thought. Where there once was a solid wall is now an open hall.

Making my way down I hear someone talking to two people actually "Yes!" the voices say one male and one female. Easy.

I slow my pace looking around the corners it takes about four turns before I see them. They both crouched down muttering over something I can't see. I step out and slowly walk over.

"Give me the gun!" the woman yells.

"I bet you can't even shoot. I'll take it." the man argues back.

The woman stands "Piss off yes, I can. You take the sword it's too heavy."

I keep my back against the wall looking over just enough to see. From this angle, they can't see me. The man stands up holding a basic blunt short sword. "Nobody uses swords these days you expect me to survive with this.

The woman has a small handgun strapped into a leather belt. The man stands facing her.

I have less than five seconds once I come around the corner. The man notices me first but there's not enough time for him to warn his partner before I shove my left hand into the back of her head grabbing onto her hair yanking her back and around. I bring my right arm across her back grasping her left shoulder with my free hand and spin us around then slam her head into the wall. She drops to the floor with a thud.

I turn facing the man standing as still as the walls around us trying to catch up. I move not wanting to waste time. That seems to knock him back to reality.

He brings the sword up just missing me.

"Sloppy," I say

He rushes behind me. I whirl around thinking he will strike me but instead, he drops the sword and goes for the gun still sitting in the woman's belt. Stupidity is what will get him killed.

I pick up the sword as he pulls the gun out, he stumbles around backing up against the wall and body. He fires off shots I dodge them all with ease closing the distance.

The panic on his face grows and the gunshots become more frantic. I quickly move to the left when another bullet grazes my right arm. I wince slightly before bringing the sword down piercing straight through his chest to the woman behind him. he screams and splutters while the woman makes a gasping sound. Turns out she was just unconscious.

I wrench the blade out and bend down taking the gun and belt then turn not bothering to stay and listen to them continuing to choke on their blood.

I secure the belt and slip the gun into its pocket on my right side then slip the sword between my waist and belt on the left and continue down the hall.
