Amrita's pov:-
I woke up listening to a hen's sweet shouting which was coming from near my room's window. Oh god what a start of the day!
I sat up lazily and eventually stood up and went to wash up. After I came back, I searched for maa but then I remembered she must be in palace.
I went towards the kitchen and searched for my breakfast when my eyes fell upon the anklets kept on a piece of cloth near the utensils on the ground and wait, it looks so familiar.
It is maa's. She forgot to wear it? Maybe she did. But she never
forgot wear it so how come? It seems I have to give it to her, she must be looking for it. But for that to happen, I have to go palace. And who knows if I will even be able to meet maa or not or what if I ran into the king? No, that will never happen, of course, I am maid's daughter and he is a king. We can never meet. And even if we did, he won't notice me and even bother to look to at me. I shouldn't be so much worried.
I took my plate which was covered and saw that maa has left me, my breakfast. I sat and started eating, only after wrapping my left duppata on my other hand.
I wonder what it would be like to live in a palace? Will is wonderful or a nightmare? Of course why will it be a nightmare? It must be wonderful, enjoying the luxury which we, villagers never got to experience. Expensive clothes, jewelleries, status, and everything. It all must be so better than our life.
No floods to worry about, no crops to loose, no tax to pay, no restriction on anything. A life of a royal is maybe better than my life where the only things I do is to sleep, eat, embroidered or sometimes, cooking and maybe after sometime, I will also get married and then I will have to take care of my husband and his family. At least now I am free bird, allowed to go anywhere but be back, before the night hits.
In all this thoughts, I didn't even notice when I finished my breakfast and then went towards our well and washed the plate and kept it in its place.
Afterwards, I went towards that anklets and taking my duppata, I kept the anklets in it and tied a tight knot so that it will not fall. And went towards the main door.
I stepped out of my house and locked the door with ropes and went out towards the palace.
As I was walking, I saw the children running and playing, when the saw me, they waved their hands and smiled, I too smiled and said to play carefully. And went further. As I reached a turn point, I was confused as to where should I go? I don't know the way of the palace. I have never visited the palace and after seeing king like that, I am more scared that what if he comes to find out and then punish me, probably?
I looked here and there and then I went towards a group of woman, asking them the way of palace. They didn't answer me, instead looked at me as if they have seen a ghost. I again asked them but no reply. Just then, someone tapped on my shoulder.
I turned to look at person and saw that it was woman who looked like maa's age and she asked me if I was looking for the palace's way? I nodded my head and she smiled saying that she is the cook there and she is returning back after purchasing some vegetables and told me that she will take me there, that is if I want to go with her.
I nodded my head almost immediately and said that I will go with her. She then turned back and started walking and I too, started walking behind her.
Just then I noticed that she was carrying some heavy bags full of veggies. I asked that if she wants, I can take those. She looked at me and asked me if I am sure. I nodded my head and she gave me those bags.
My god, why are these so heavy? How did she held these? Salute to her!
We were walking while having chats with her and she was telling me about maa's condition now a days and because of that, she did many mistakes but the king did nothing. Just then she looked at me and told me that if I believe the rumours about the king? I couldn't say anything but lightly agreed because he did look scary.
She then smiled and said that he is nothing like the rumours and that he cares about his people very much. I fell silent with her words and just then I saw the palace gate in front of me. And I am telling you, I have never such an enormous golden gate ever in my life. It was so beautiful and big and looked so expensive.
The soldiers looked at us and asked me about my purpose to visit the palace. Before I could say anything, the woman answered saying that I am here to meet my mother who is a maid in the palace.
They looked at me a bit as if I am a criminal but eventually opened the gate and lead us inside.
As I was walking in the front lawn of the palace, my jaw was on the ground, the whole way and it got even bigger when I reached the palace entrance room.
"It is so beautiful."
White marble tiles, and carefully customise sculpted walls with pink flowers and pure white swans on the peach coloured walls. Why swans though?
As I walked further, my question was answered and it was so pretty. It was small pond with so many swans on both the sides of the bridge like ground.
Just then I saw two big quarters like and asked the woman, where would maa be? She looked at the left one and said that all the maids work there most of the time so she must also be there or if not there then I will have to wait for her as I am not allowed to go anywhere else. And then she told me to keep the bag in that room near the knives while she goes for her other work.
I went towards the room and kept the bag in its place and searched for maa there but could not find her. Just then one another woman came towards me asked me if I am the one looking for Radhika. I nodded my head and said that it's my maa and she told me to wait as she is cleaning the guest room right now.
Oh great! Just what I needed! I nodded my head hiding my disappointment but at least I can roam around in the outdoors. She told me not to go inside. I can roam into that garden which I just saw.
After she left, I went towards the garden and roamed my hand on the beautiful flowers when suddenly a dove flied towards me and I kept my palm open for him to land and he did. And I started admiring and playing with it when I felt a peircing stare on my back which sent chills through my whole body.
As I turned back, I saw two men wearing expensive clothes leaving through the corridors of the garden and one of them looked familiar but I couldn't recognise him but he looked angry.
Just as I was staring at him, someone called me and asked me if I knew who just went by? I shook my head as no and just then he said that it was the king himself. And I fell on the ground, on knees.
The king? Oh no. What will he do now? I am not allowed to enter anywhere in this palace yet I entered this garden which also belongs to him. I am doomed!
