AS SOON AS MORGAN PUT THE CAR IN PARK, Scout was out running towards the sea of police surrounding Federal Plaza. Morgan was right behind her, calling out to the cops, "Hey! Hey, who's in charge here?"

One officer gave the two agents a wary look but answered briefly. "Captain Warner."

Ahead, the captain barked commands at the officers organizing ways to clear the area. Scout approached, "Captain Warner—"

"Captain, I'm Agent Morgan, FBI. This is Agent Foster. We're looking for Agent Hotchner, Aaron Hotchner," Morgan explained. Scout looked around, overwhelmed by the flashing police lights and milling officers.

"Go back to the federal building," the captain said, trying to turn away. "There are evac marshaling spots. Check in to make sure they know where you are."

Morgan followed him. "I am not about to do that."

"Get out of my face or I'll have you bodily removed, agent."

From afar, a faint yell pierced the air. "Please, we're here!"

Scout's blood ran cold and she whipped her head towards the sound. In the center of the closed-off area, she could vaguely see the silhouette of a man leaning over a body. "Hotch."

Morgan and Scout moved towards their supervisor at the same time, only to be held back by an officer. "The area's restricted."

"That's my boss down there," Morgan countered angrily.

"My orders are what they are," said Captain Warner.

Morgan turned to the captain. Scout couldn't take her eyes off Hotch and Kate in the middle of the street. Was she dead? Was he injured? "I don't give a damn what your orders are!" Morgan spat.

"I get it, agent. But we've been told by you that responders are the targets. So till the blast site is cleared, no one goes in."

"They clearly need help," Scout said, tearing her eyes off of Hotch and staring at Captain Warner in disbelief.

He shook his head. "Please, go back to the marshaling point."

But Morgan stood tall, and Scout straightened too. "We can't do that."

"I can provide medical attention," Scout said without thinking. "I'm trained in crisis intervention." It wasn't really a lie, she had to undergo certain training measures when she did her clinical internship. She just had never used said measures in action.

Hotch's panicked voice rang out through the plaza. "Help us! Damn it, we're here!"

Whether Scout was medically prepared or not didn't matter, Hotch needed help. "If we leave them there, Agent Joyner is going to die," Scout said to the captain. "It shouldn't matter if the area is clear or not. We can't just leave them there."

"You're marines right? Right?" Morgan snapped, trying to keep the captain's attention. "What happened to never leaving a man behind?"

     "We're here!" Hotch called. "Please!"
