You eventually woke up during the plane ride and immediately panicked. They calmed you down and explained what happened. Then you tell them you have to go back, they don't understand until you tell them about your family. They hadn't thought much about that, just focused on escaping the zombies and take the plane with them before it was too late and to save you while they were at it.

The plane eventually land on an airstrip close to where they come from. But as they land, something happens and the wheels break, making the landing into a crash. Now they didn't have a working plane anymore. But luckily the supplies they had gathered survived the crash along with most onboard. The pilot had unfortunately died, but saved everyone else during the crash.

With no other choice really, you help out on the way to the safe haven. You need to get there to find a way back to your family. But you already know it was going to be a long and difficult journey.

...

They call it Haven. It's close to the border, with many survivors and a big place that is barricaded and made completely safe. A big grain field has been seeded and is soon ready to harvest. There's school for the few amount of children that are here. Ethan would love the security system they have made here.

The area around Haven is mostly safe too, it's almost a day walk until you reach dangerous territory, not secured further from that yet. This place is great. But Ethan and Parker aren't here, so you're not staying.

The person in charge here, David Knox, is obsessed with keeping people safe, not just from the Zombies, but from themselves. A lot of people died in the beginning of the apocalypse while they were getting this place set up. Many from zombies, but others from loss of hope.

Now they had a lot more space than they used to. They have the field to grow food. Before they had that and with still no word from anyone else around the world, people had started to lose the hope Knox tried so hard to give them. They were grieving losses of their families, many has PTSD from the experiences at the beginning before they got to Haven, some had watched their loved ones get eaten and turn into zombies before their eyes. There was a big wave of suicides around that time.

And Knox hated that, he wanted people to not just be safe, but to feel happy and wanting to live, to have hope for the future. He was a good man and a great leader.

You tell him you're grateful for what his men did to save you, but that you have to go back. Knox is shocked you don't want to stay, but understands when you tell him about your family. Unfortunately the journey back would be impossible to survive and since the plane was damaged now, there was no way to take you back. At least not until they could find a new plane and that wasn't a priority for some time, since it was dangerous and they had already got a lot out of what they have collected with it and they didn't have a pilot anymore. Even when or if they get another plane working and by some miracle the fuel lasts till then, he isn't sure if they can prioritise flying back to any area around where you came from.

You believe Ethan and Parker will go look for you, so you want to leave so you can meet them, not wanting them to go all that distance on their own in case no one joins them. There was no way you were staying here for so long anyway, it sounded like it could take years to get the chance to fly back. You'd rather risk the dangerous journey.

He tells you that there's no way someone can get from where they found you to this place, especially not with a child. You tell him that Ethan isn't just anyone, he would make it, even with Parker. But you did think it was necessary for you to go to meet them, instead of them having to go all the way alone. Knox definitely didn't believe you could make it, so he denied your request to leave. You tell him he can't just keep you here, but he gets a stern look and says that he can.

As the days go by, you try to talk to Knox every chance you get, trying to convince him to let you leave, but he won't. So you try to find a way to escape. During these days you often notice this little girl looking at you from a distance. But whenever you try to approach, she just hurries off and you can't find her. One day you finally manage to ambush her so to speak, and the two of you talk.

Soon you connect with the young 8 year old girl, Mia. She has long messy hair, so you asked her if she would let you braid her hair and she did.
(I was thinking you can decide skin and hair colour yourself if you want.)

Mia has caught on that you want to escape, and she knows a way. But she doesn't tell you about it, not wanting you to leave. Then one evening you tell her more about Ethan and Parker, and it makes you tear up as you speak about them. She then feels bad and tells you that she knows how you can escape.
