Ethan goes to the truck and open the back door to talk to Mia, but she's not there. "Mia?" He frowns as he looks around for her. You hear and look at him confused. "Where is she?"

"Mia.. Mia?" You frown in worry and look around frantically. "Her backpack is gone."

Ethan notice a gun missing. "She took one of the pistols."

He rubs his hand over his mouth in worry, looking around for any sign of her, trying to find out which way she has gone.

"No, no, no." You try not to panic. You're so used to Parker always being stuck to your hip, her running away was new to you.

"Okay, okay. Uh.. You stay with Parker. I'll, uh.." Ethan glances at the different directions she might've gone, feeling overwhelmed by the options being too many and if he goes wrong she will get further away before he can find her.

"I can go one way and you take Parker with you. Or I can take him." You stutter out as you grab your gun.

"No." He says, he now remembers something he taught her recently and knows what way she has gone. "Stay here. I'll find her."

"Ethan." You say to argue about going too, but he grab and kiss your head.

"I'll find her, I promise, okay? Just stay here."

He was still armed so he just grabs an extra gun and start running to find her. Parker opens the car door and your attention turn to him. He sees Ethan just before he's out of sight.

  "Where's dad going?"

You hurriedly wipe the tears on your cheeks. "He's just going to get Mia. They'll be back. Help me out with dinner, will you?"

...

Ethan finally catches up and see her. Mia is walking with sad strides.

"Mia!" He says when he's close enough to be heard without shouting too loud. She had heard his jogging footsteps but didn't turn around and just kept walking. "Mia, stop."

When he reaches her, he grabs her shoulder to stop her. She just looks at the ground.

"Come on, let's get back. Yn is worried sick."

He says and move to go, but she doesn't follow. Turning back to her, he frowns confused. Ethan takes a quick once over at the area, seeing no signs of zombies but still wants to get back as soon as possible.

  "Mia, come on."

She shakes her head. "I don't wanna put you in danger anymore."

Ethan sighs. "Mia.." He says but she starts to walk away. He stops her again and bend down to her level. "Everyone makes mistakes, it doesn't mean we want you to go away."

"You're happier without me anyway." She mutters.

He takes a hold of her hands. "That's not true, Mia."

"I always do something wrong and put you in danger."

"You just have a lot to learn, it's gonna be okay. Yn and Parker had to learn all of the things you are. It's been new to them once too."

"But they don't make you angry." She mumbles. He raises his eyebrow and smirks slightly while scoffing a chuckle.

"Do you think I've never had to reprimand Parker? Even Yn. And she has reprimanded me many times, she still does." He tells her with a chuckle.

She just stares sadly at the ground and he sighs. He makes her look at him and hold her upper arms.

"Mia. We consider you our daughter." He says and her eyes widen. "And if we lost you, I.. I won't be able to handle that. So I need you to listen to me when I tell you something."

She looks at him for a long moment. "Daughter?"

"Yeah.. I know we're not your real parents, but-"

She interrupts him by jumping on him in a hug. "You're better parents than they ever were."

He hugs her back, then pulls her back to give her a serious look, holding her arms. "But that means we have to be able to say something you might not like to hear, without risking you walking off like this. Alright?"

She nods in understanding. Then she looks at him shyly.

"Does that mean I can call you 'Mom' and 'Dad'?"

He smiles and move some loose hair strands from her braid behind her ear. "If you want that, we would love for you to consider us as such." He tells her. She nods happily.

...

You're constantly looking the direction Ethan went, anxiously waiting for them to come back. Then you finally see them. You sigh in relief, clutching your chest. You put a hand on the car to hold your balance from the overwhelming relief to see her okay. Ethan ruffles her head and nod for her to go. She runs to you. Getting down to your knees you open your arms for her. Both with teary eyes, she hugs you and you embrace her tightly.

"Please, don't ever do that to us ever again." You plead to her.

  "I'm sorry." She tells you.

  "I just love you, sweetheart."

"I love you too, Mom." She tells you and you pull back to look at her in surprise.

Mia looks at you shyly, waiting for your response. A smile grows on your face and tears form in your eyes. You caress her face and pull her in to kiss her forehead.

"Mia!" Parker says excitedly when he sees her. He runs to her and she opens her arms to let him hug her. "I missed you. Where you go?" He asks her.

You stand up and walk to Ethan. He wraps his arms around and pull you close, looking at you with a smile. Then you lean your head on his chest and both of you look at Mia putting her backpack back in the truck and taking Parker's hand.
