It was dark and shady. The sound of water droplets was the only sound to be heard. The only visible objects were sharp spikes hanging from the roof of the cave, where the droplets dripped. Mice hid in their holes, afraid of the darkness. Or so you might’ve thought.
One mouse was cleaning itself with the falling droplets, unaware of its surroundings. It didn’t even notice the dark red eyes staring eagerly at the mouse, the peace lasting for only a few moments.
Suddenly, the figure had moved. The mouse had nowhere to run, for the move was too sudden. The mouse squirmed and squealed. It was only a matter of seconds when the mouse was defeated. The creature had its jaws stuck in the mouse’s body, then it trotted deeper into the cave. Darkness tightened the deeper it went. The walls were damp and slimy. The air smelled like wet moss. Then finally, there was a speck of light, in which the creature walked through. On the other side, its grey fur became visible. Its pure white paws padded as it walked. The other side was much brighter than the dark passage. There was a small lake in the corner of the cave, where a small waterfall entered through a small hole between the rocky walls. The grey wolf walked over to another figure in the distance. She dropped the mouse right beside it.
She nudged the black puppy, waking him up. The little thing yawned as he woke. He looked up at the she-wolf and smiled, wagging his small tail, “mamma! What did you catch this time?” he asked, his eyes sparkled as he stared up at his mother hopefully. The she-wolf nudged the mouse she had dropped.
The pup looked down, “oh, I didn’t see it,” he said, slight dissapointment in his voice, yet grateful.
“No worries. Eat up, now. And sorry if it's too little. That's all I can find.”
The pup winced. But he ate it anyway. The two wolves exitted the cave. The she-wolf led the way across to the human path, making sure her pup stayed close. On the other side, she trusted the cub to wander a bit further, so they could find something to eat sooner. He trotted over to some bushes, sniffing inside and outside. He looked high and low for something, but couldn’t find anything. He was about to lose hope and head back for his mum, when he heard a rustle nearby. He whipped his head around. The rustle came from the nearby bushes next to a tree. The cub almost bounced with excitement, tiptoeing towards the rustles.
As he was close enough, he pounded into the bushes, coming out sneezing the twigs and leaves from his nose, with a rabbit in his jaws. He was so excited to have caught something that he rushed towards the direction his mother had gone. His heart pounded with excitement as he ran.Suddenly, he stopped. His eyes widened with fear, as he watched what situation his mum was in. A two-legged creature had a long stick stuck around her neck, or so that's what it looked like. She growled viciously as she desperately tried to free herself. The pup didn’t want to see what would happen if he did nothing, and so he dropped the rabbit and darted towards the two-legged creature. He grasped at its leg, obviously trying to rip it off. The creature got annoyed and kicked him away. He skidded across the rough black path, and body ached with burns. When he managed to look up, his mother was shoved into the vehicle beside them. It slammed the vehicle closed and scurried off.
The cub rose up from the ground and darted for the vehicle. He chased it as far as he could go, but his small and stubby legs got tired after only thirty seconds, and so the pup collapsed back to the ground. He watched the vehicle hurry away, with tears running down his cheek. He heard his mum’s despondence howl. He howled back to his mum, hoping for another reply. But the vehicle had disappeared from sight. He was heartbroken.
He was even more upset thinking about staying in the dark cave all by himself. Poor guy.
