HOW do you know when you love someone?
It's a question that, no matter who you are, where you're from, what your job is, whether you like social interactions or not, everyone wonders.
It's a question that you can get multiple different answers to.
"When you're in love with someone, you'll start to develop strong compassion for them." Some random philosopher would say.
"You'll talk about anything and everything." Your mom may tell you.
In Sunoo's case, however, he's received multiple answers throughout his life.
"You'll feel safe around them." His sister always says, though she hadn't been able to hold a relationship since fifth grade.
"You'll think about them all the time." His friend, Jay, told him.
"You know each other better than anyone else." Jungwon, his roommate tells him, while they both lay on the rug in their room, staring up at the northern lights projected onto the ceiling.
Or you'll hear the infamous phrase, that has been said for decades on decades.
"You'll just know."
It's a question Kim Sunoo has pondered all his life.
When he was just a little kid, he wondered if it was how he felt for his parents, would he feel that way for someone?
He wondered if it's how he felts for his best friends, was that love?
He wondered if it's how he felt when his childhood pet passed away.
He wondered if the only true test to love someone was to lose them.
Was that how you know? Do you need to lose them, suffer, grieve, ache for them to come back into your life?
Or is it something much simpler?
Is it something like how he always tried to remember his exes coffee order?
Though, he always thought about it so much he'd forget.
Is it something like how when they notice you're cold, they give you their jacket?
Is it when you're sick, and they make you soup, let you stay in bed and watch tv?
Or is it when they don't care that you're sick and come hold you, comfort you and wish they could take your sickness away?
Is it truly just a matter of being in the moment?
Is it just right place right time?
How do you know the person that you love, or rather think you love, is the one for you?
It's a question that Son Hana wondered as well.
Was love just being there for a person?
Or was it giving them advice?
