"Foster?" Keefe's voice is low and soft, like he's afraid of waking Sophie up. She forces her heavy eyelids to flutter open, meeting his ice blue gaze.

"Sencen?" Sophie replies, flashing a smile that probably came out lazily. She must seem insane to him. She's literally falling asleep on his living room couch, after she showed up uninvited. All she could think of after she got her nightmare was getting to Keefe, so he could make things better. Keefe always makes things better.

"I'm sorry," Sophie mumbles, gripping the blanket draped around her shoulders tighter.

"For what?"

"Sleeping. Here. Not hailing first." She can't make out clear sentences, so she simply tosses out words in hopes of him sewing them all together. Sophie will probably be tossed out of Candleshade any minute now anyway.

"You're always welcome here, Foster." Keefe says lightly. Sophie can feel her eyes threatening to flutter closed again.

"Talk." Sophie mutters, forcing her grogginess down. Keefe sits on the cushion next to her, smiling reassuringly. She leans back against the arm of the couch, willing the sleep away. Her back digs against it, stabbing her hard enough to make her eyes open further.

"About what?"

"Anything. Your voice is very nice." Sophie flashes a groggy smile, head swaying.

"Is it, now?" Keefe asks, voice laced with amusement. Sophie just nods, not having enough energy to actually form a response. She is dangerously close to saying something she will regret, seeing that she is simply tossing out any words that come to mind.

"You know you can sleep, right? One of us needs it." Keefe coos.

"But I'm not home. It's not nice to sleep in someone else's home." Sophie informs him, trying to keep her words from slurring but failing miserably. She blinks hard. Once. Twice. Shakes her head. Maybe if she shakes her head hard enough the words will link together eventually.

"I'm giving you permission, Foster," Keefe chuckles, "More than permission. I'm asking you to sleep."

Sophie cocks her head, studying him from a different angle. When she decides he's not just being nice, that he actually wants her there, is when she lets her head fall limply on his shoulder.

"There you go, Foster." Keefe whispers softly, putting an arm around her back and another around her waist to pull her closer. Sophie practically collapses on top of him as he lays back, letting her head rest on his shoulder.

"Thank you," Sophie slurs her words. She can feel Keefe smile against her. He traces patterns on her back with one hand as the other slowly drags his hand up and down her spine. Sophie shivers, letting her worries and lingering memories of her nightmare fall away. She buries her face into the crook of his neck, eliciting a small snort of forced down laughter from Keefe.

"Keefe?"

"Yes Foster?"

"You're amazing." Sophie can hear his breath hitch. Maybe he's never heard that before. Maybe she is the first one to say it to him. When he speaks, his voice comes out soft and small, "Really?"

"Yes. You make everything feel better when I'm around you. You're amazing, Keefe Sencen." Sophie suddenly feels the need to spew words at him in the hopes he will believe them and remember what an awesome person he is every time his father says otherwise.

"Foster- that's..." He trails off and swallows. Hard. She can feel his Adam's apple bob. Sophie puts her hands around the back of his neck and holds him tightly, like it is proving that she isn't lying to him. When Keefe takes a slow, deep, breath, Sophie brings her hands up to toy with the ends of his hair.

"Thank you, Sophie." Keefe whispers slowly. He speaks like he is in a dream and if he talks too loudly he may shatter the perfect illusion. Sophie slowly draws her chin up to look at him. His cheeks are slightly flushed, and he is robbed of his typical smirk.

He's just staring at her like she's the only thing in the whole world. Like if he can stare at her long enough everything else with eventually fade away.

Sophie stares back. Maybe if they do stay like this for a little while, everything else will simply disappear.
