Missing the old family

Jason had been assigned to watch over Ellie while Jazz talked to Danny about yesterday's robbery incident. Jason hoped Jazz could get through Danny.

"Okay, Ellie, you're going to spend time with your favorite uncle." Never mind that Jason was her only uncle. (He ignored the ping of hurt in his chest at that thought.)

Ellie smiled at Jason. Her smile looked just like Danny's; well, she was his clone...

Jason fed her. He was always surprised at how much she ate, but then again, so did Danny. Maybe it was a halfa thing. He cleaned her mouth and couldn't help but hold her and throw her in the air before catching her.

Jason had a panic attack when she stayed in the air.

"Okay, Ellie, maybe come down for Uncle Jay, yeah," he pleaded to the toddler. She giggled while somersaulting in the air. Oh God, Jazz was going to kill him!

"Ellie, please, come down from there. Uncle Jay can't leave you to get a ladder.

Should he call Jazz? He's never seen Ellie act this way with Jazz before. Did he do something wrong?

"Okay, Jay, think, think. There's no time for panicking. I have to get a one-year-old from the ceiling and make sure she doesn't fall. Easy-peasy."

Jason decided to get a chair and tried to get Ellie. She would weave around his hands, giggling the whole time.

"C'mon, Ellie, we can play on the floor if you want, but you have to get down."

Ellie put a shield around herself and bounced from the ceiling to the floor. Okay, time to get Jazz.

"Jazz! Ellie is using her powers, and I don't know how to stop her."

Jazz came out of the room, Danny following her. His son laughed at his father's distress.

"Ellie, stop now."

The baby listened to Jazz and pouted at her.

"Just because you're with Uncle Jay doesn't mean you can act out. Understand?"

The baby nodded, nodded. Can she understand? What the hell? Was she testing boundaries and thought Jason was a weak link?

"I'm sorry about that; she likes to act out from time to time. I guess she thought she could get away from it."

Jazz glared at the baby, and the baby gave a crooked smile that wasn't from Danny. Good, it meant she had her own personality.

"Don't worry, daddy; Ellie never listened to me when I was older. She didn't want to stay put in one place and traveled the world when she was twelve."

"Danny, we both know she wasn't twelve. She was a few months old."
